Hey all, I know you've all probably been asked this many times before

but Im getting a new 06 Civic Coupe in black

and I REALLY want to keep this in tip top condition

and im gathering items up to start detailing, since i've never done anything more than wash

so i've got a:

- microfibre wash mitt

- RAIN X wax

- microfibre detailing towel

- NU FINISH polish

and i really cant seem to find anything else i need, im sure i need more cloths to do stuff, and do i need to add anything to the list?

btw, i want to be able to pick this stuff up in canadian tire, wal-mart, or anything local...

and should i or should i not do anything to the car when i get it?

anyways, i appreciate all your help.

you gonna want 2 buckets for a wash, and sheepskin mitts instead of microfiber wash mitts.. A high quality shampoo as well.

You're definately going to need more than one microfiber detaling towel...I myself have 2 dozen or so. When you wash the car, make sure you use proper technique, rinse often, avoid contamination. Best thing to do early is to avoid adding swirls to the paint.

I agree with the above. You could ue cotton chenille mitts instead of sheepskin. 100% cotton towels will work for drying and they are less expensive than microfiber. I use both.

I'd not mess with the NU FINISH polish. Just get some Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax in the burgandy bottle and use it often -- like about every 6-8 weeks.

As you get into detailing more, you might change from this simple start and use some more exotic stuff.

Please note my signature. I "know" black.

hmmm... the sheepskin feels a bit rough and scratchy to the touch does it not? i was going to pick it up, but it didnt seem like something i'd want to touch my car with haha

and yeah i gotta get the chamois (sp?) towel for drying also.

and for some reason, no matter what i cant find a good POLISH, they all just say wax or wax + polish, not just polish. I found a turtle wax one, but it said it contained mild abrasives so i didnt pick that up... whats a good cheap polish to pick up?

I thought the same thing with the sheep skin. Once you get it wet it is really smooth and nice. You will like it.
