New Acura TL Black

I just purchased a new acura tl and am looking at doing a full detail on it.



I was looking at wash/clay/wax, not sure I need a polish as the car is relatively new. It did sit out in the winter weather for 6 months on the lot so maybe I do need a polish? Based on what I have read the acura is soft.



I have some wolfgang clay, is this good for my vehicle. If not what do you recommend?



I was looking at menzerna sip and 85rd for the finish. Is this a good combination for my vehicle? Is there anotehr combination you would recommend?



Finally, I am looking for a good matte leather cleaner/conditioner. I have pinnacle and it is very greasy/shiny which I dont like.

First off, welcome to Autopia.



First wash, then clay and then I am sure it will need a polish. the menzerna polishes are very good. I am assuming you are using a 7424/g100/g110 polisher. I would try the 85rd first to see if it gives you the desired finish first, and then if there are defects/swirls/scratches you need to remove.. then step up to the SIP. Just make sure to use light pressure when removing the polish, as I find Acura/Honda paint is very soft and you can introduce marring just from being aggresive with microfibers.



For leather, I am currently using Optimum Protectant Plus, it leaves a nice very nice silky/matte finish. Actually I use it on all the plastics too.



Other good leather products are Zaino Z9 Cleaner and Z10 Conditioner. Lexol is often recommended on here, but I personally do not use it, it is a bit glossy.



Also I even used Turtle Wax Leather Cleaner and Conditioner with great results in a pinch (recommended by Scottwax).

I dont have a polisher yet but was looking at one that you state or the flex 3401.



With regard to the polish, is 85rd and sip the same? I thought one was a polish and the other was a finish. So do I need to do both or is one sufficient.



Also, would there be a better option, I keep seeing people talking about megs 105/205. Woudl that work for my car and color?



Finally, I am new to this so it will be my first polish/wax in 20 years. Would there be an easier yet excellent polish to use? I really dont want something that is going to be real difficult and introduce a lot of marring/swirles etc.

I personally use Meguiars 105 and 205, and love them. 105 is the Heavy Compound and 205 is the Finishing Polish. 105 is very heavy duty and would probably be overkill for your new soft black paint (and being new to using these products).



Menzerna SIP is a medium cutting polish and 85rd is a finishing polish (one of the best).



There are a million different products you could choose, but you mentioned Menzerna first... their polishes are very high quality and come highly recommended on this forum. You could get a beautiful finish with either Megs or Menz.



The Flex is one of the best polishers out (so I hear) and many people recommend them. The G110 comes recommended as well, and is a bit cheaper. Since you are just getting into this, check out ADS for their polisher kits. As you can save some money when items are packaged into a kit.
