First I like to say thank you to everyone, I've learned a lot.

I just got my PC last weekend an am going to attempt to remove swirls and water spots/pits on my black 4runner. This is what I have to work with...

7336SP w. Velcro backing plate, white , gray and yellow foam pad.

3M IHG, & #9SMR.

The car has already been clayed, cleaned and ready to go. My plan is to use the #9 SMR with yellow or white pad to remove the swirls and water pits. Should I also get the 3M SMR for dark color cars?? What else do you guys think I will need to get rid of the SMR. I've already read ALBSOTON how to but just wanted to make sure I got what I need. Also he mention using DAPC, what is that for ? I have mothers paint cleaner & meg deep crystal cleaner, can I use this instead?

I already have the full line of Z products for afterwards.

Thanks in advanced.

Deciding how aggressive to go with polishes is a judgement call. If the swirls and water spots are noticable, you might want to go with the yellow (cutting) pad. If they're kinda mild and you're just being Autopian-picky then the polishing pad might work. The default if you're unsure is to start off gentle and see where that gets you. SMR/#9 is still pretty mild stuff though.

Since you're stripping it off anyway, don't bother gettting the Dark SMR. It just has dark fillers. Don't use the IHG for your case.

DACP is a stronger abrasive than SMR/#9 and if the spots/swirls don't come off with SMR, this would usually be the next step. You might want to try the Meguiar's DC cleaner you have first though, since I remember an old abrasiveness thread suggesting it's stronger than #9...

Dawn wash or use Z1 to clean the paint before Z-ing.

4DSC is right on.:up If the DACP doesn't remove the water spots somthing like 3M's Finisse it2 or 3M's fine cut compound should do the trick. If you do use a compound you will need to use a SMR to remove the haze that can be left over from the compounds

So what u guys are saying is I should try the #9SMR w. yellow cma pad, if that doesn't work try Meg's DC, and/or get DACP.
