Never Dull scratching chrome?

just snagged some never dull to try on the chrome trim an wheels on my truck. just did a tiny little test spot before it got dark when i got home from the store. wiped the spot on the bumper clean with QEW and an MF, ripped off a little piece of the wadding and went over the area. it definitely appeared as if the chrome was cleaner, but i think there was also an appearance of more very minute scratches in the chrome? is this normal or did i pick up some grit in the wadding somehow, maybe a little piece i missed wiping the area off? its not a big deal the bumpers have a fair number of scratches over the years an will get replaced eventually with smoothies, just wondering is this is normal or i did something wrong before i go to my wheels (although they are hopefully getting warranteed too)

I've used Never Dull for years and haven't had any problems with it scratching chrome or any metal I've used it on. I've used it on a chrome set of 20"s I had for over a year without incident, as well as my aluminum boat, and numerous other metals without fail. Maybe you did pick something up or just missed something like you said.

I used never-dull a lot in the past for a few years. But like you I noticed the fine scratches especially over time and even worse on softer metals. I assume the wadding used with never-dull is the cause of this. After a summer of using never-dull on my exhaust on my street bike it looked horrible. I picked up a Mother's Mini Polishing ball and polish, and haven't used Never-dull since. The polishing ball cleaned up all the scratches in the pipe, made the process easier and a lot quicker. The pipe on my bike hasn't looked that good since I took it out of the box.

Yer, Never Dull cause micro scratches, Silvo is the only stuff that will eliminate heavy scratches, but micro hairlines are still present. Only a true buffing compound such as chrome rouge on a bench grinder can eliminate hairline scratches once the work piece is brought up to buffing temperature. All metal polishes suffer from the in ability to break down especially if applied or polished by hand. When buffinging with a true buffing compound the metal is dragged or burnished to eliminate any scratches.

I used never dull on my polished wheels and it left some fine scratches. That was one of the reasons I quit using it

You guys aren't alone!

I am a huge fan of old Lincolns with lots of chrome. I used some Never Dull on the bumpers of my old Town Car and ended up with the same scratches you are talking about. Of course I thought it had to be MY fault . I mean, why would a product made for chrome scratch it, right?

So, I went and bought a new can and tried it on my Mark VII. Thought it looked good in the garage ......until it hit the sun the next day! Now I have two nice old Lincolns with scratched up chrome bumpers.......AARRRRGGHHH!

Damn I just bought a can yesterday from Walmart :( I was going to give it a try on my chrome tips, I'm taking it back and picking up some of those kitchen WW's instead.

Wow, I looked back at the new responses to this and I see that I am overwhelmingly outnumbered by those with negative results! I have to admit I haven't used Nev-r-Dull in a while, but I couldn't figure out why I didn't have marring from use of it. I guess I should add I used it mainly for small blemishes and hazy spots before using a metal polish on the entire surface, so maybe I just fixed or covered any scratches I had from it before. This intrigues me....I might just have to go dig out my old can and see if I can find some metal to test it out on by itself! I haven't had to use it in a while since I got a powerball and Mothers metal polish, which is my go-to now.

haha damn so the mothers stuff really is awesome? i have the powerball, need to get a mini though it will be better for in between on my wheels.

could it be possible that theres just tiny contaminants still on the chrome, an perhaps claying first right after the wash could help? the never dull took the minor brake dust build up off beautifully, id say as a chemical cleaner it worked awesome, its just the polishing/abrasiveness that kinda got me. might have to reserve it for raw metal of lesser quality finish, maybe my driveshaft an such
