Networking Issues

Egad look at that shine.
I have a networking problem and was wondering if anyone can recommend a site to goto for help or maybe solve it here. I have windows xp pro on 2 pcs. A can see B, but B cant see A, A can't access B, B can't even see A to access it. Both are in the same workgroup and both have files shared. I've tried resetting sharing on both computers to no avail. The error message comes up the same for both \\PCNAME is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resources. This continues on to finally say the network path is not found. Also both pcs are connected to the internet fine.

If your using a firewall it may not be allowing the connection. All firewall have setting that allow or dis-allow the connection.

Turned off all firewalls and still no solution same issue as before. I have even gone as far as creating a regitry entry because norton supposedly messes it up which in my case it did and no solution there either.

First things first - I assume they are connected to the same router and it is givng out DHCP ip addresses (so they should be in the same subnet..)

On machine A go to start>>>run and type in cmd and hit enter to open a command prompt. type this ping machinenameB (where machine name b is the name of the B pc)

you should get a reply back. Then do the same on the B machine and ping the a box. You should get a reply back. if you don't then there is something going on the B box that is preventing it from seeing A. If you can ping back and fourth on both boxes.

Start there and let me know .
