neighbor is UNHAPPY

I'm a nice guy ... for the most part

I carry my "stuff" up the street to a neighbors house, he's interested in detailing his truck ... 2 year old work truck, gets a regular wash by hand every so-often.

its not pretty up close, but you guys have seen worse

...so we remove the tailgate and I spend about 2 hrs just on the tailgate using PC w/ 2.5, 1, EW, Nattys X2. I spoke at length about all the stuff you guys write about, 1inch per sec, blah blah blah ... he provided tunes and beer, worth my 2hrs!

I go away for the weekend, he borrowed all my stuff ... last night, I had 3 or 4 vmails on the phones for some help when I get back.

Apparently he went too fast over some areas, they weren't perfect??? I explained this to him before I left. One tailgate = 2 hrs, figure a door / hood / front qtr, total time will be 10 hrs? He finished the whole dealio in 6 hrs. WHOLE TRUCK.

I'm NOT about to 'provide' 8-10hrs worth of help ... I told him to do it again, nice and slow! he just stood there and b*tched about it ... so I went home, with my stuff.

moral of the story, be careful when helping someone out.

I work with a compulsive complianer. This guy is NOT happy UNLESS he is complianing. You could give him a check for a million dollars and he would complain about having to go cash it. I know avoid and ignore him whenever possible. I have tried to help him in the past and he just ends up screwing me or p!ssing me off.

its friggin annoying isn't it?

the other neighbor has a new 06 black vette convertible ...

he wants help, but thinks the all world helper is the off the shelf quick detailers

I refuse to help folks that don't listen ...

Yeah, I stopped helping this guy too. LOL He has a newer house that he built and is paid for, decent size boat paid for, two new cars, one paid for the other his wife's work pays for and the guy ALWAYS complains about money, gas prices (especially on the water) and everything else. None of us here can stand him for more that 5 minutes. He always used to ask for detailing help and advice but no matter what I would tell him he still used his 20 year old can of Turtle Wax. He came complaining how it stained all of his trim and I told him I didn't want to hear it. I work with a lot of politicians in my "day" job and I hate politics. This guy always wants to talk, a.k.a. complain about, politics and I have to walk away. LOL

Yeah, show someone one thing and they think they know better after you show them. I remember showing a co-worker some basic weight lifting exercises (I am no expert but not a beginner as well). Next week I see him at the gym and he's doing the exercises all wrong and I ask him what he is doing. He says he is switching it up and doing muscle confusion like the P90x infomercial he saw .....

Its amazing how people won't just stop and listen to advice rather than going off hellbent convinced that their way is better.

I stopped dispensing advice a long, long time ago.

Some people have always had things just handed to them in one way or another and they just can't handle difference. I can't stand being around someone that is closed minded and doesn't want to learn something different.I LOVE options!! WhooHoo. lol. You did your part, you can't make someone listen and this is very difficult when you are truely trying to help someone and just give them YOUR opinion and they just don't want to hear it. Makes you wonder why your even TRYING to help the person.

Well you could explain it to him like this... say that a professional detail with polishing will probably run him anywhere from 300-500 dollars depending on the area and who is doing it.

Then say that you will do it for him at a discounted 200. Or if you don't do this for a living and he doesn't want to pay you give him the card of a good pro in the area and let him go to that person.

It's amazing how many people think your time isn't worth anything because it's something THEY want. Him paying you (or finding out how much it actually would cost him) will make him appreciate you, your time, and the fact that you were really nice to even help him and let him use your stuff.

Personally I wouldn't let anyone use my tools... but that's me so I think you're a much more trusting person than I :)

sounds like a real winner. i give you credit for even helping him that much to begin with! i can't imagine loaning my equipment to a beginner...i would fear that the backing plates and pads would come back destroyed.

the PC was the only item worth much

the PADS are the older ones, I have a full new set for this year

I don't use that much polish/wax anyway, so why not use the bottle up so I can try something else!

Neighbourly love huh ?

Looks like there's a lesson to be learned here. I hope you take it in and tell him YOU're busy next time

The response from your neighbor I believe is typical of the general public that has no idea how much time, skill, and effort is needed to do any signicant paint correction.

They think "detailing"="car washing".

I often have neighbors and friends ask for lessons in caring for their cars. The first few times, I fell for it. It didn't take long before I learned that what they really wanted was for me to do the work while they sat back with a beer and cigar and criticized.

don't even get me started on this topic, "UN-GRATEFUL" is a word that comes to mind with some people....
