Need your thoughts....

on extractors. I am looking at purchasing this unit. Possibly as early as tomorrow unless you guys have a better idea.

Here is a link to the unit. This is not who I am buying it through though.

US Products Cobra Series Portable Extractors

I am looking at buying the Cobra 300H from Pro Car Beauty. If I get it from them at 2100 I get a free vacuum worth 300. Still need to ask what brand but with that kind of price tag can it be bad?

Looks to be a very nice machine. The price seems to be in the correct ballpark for decent machines. It didn't list the extraction capabilities but with everything else I would have to assume 9 down = 9 up. I love the thought of instant hot though. My Mytee Grand Prix takes about 5-7 minutes to warm up.

Chris,

That is a great extractor. We have two of them in my shop. Just a few of my personal opinions on it...

- The instant heat is wonderful, but I wouldn't technically call it "instant". I still hold the nozzle over the solution tank for a few seconds until it is hot, but once I've started it is always HOT (and have the callouses from the brass fittings to prove it).

- The drain valve is a little low for my liking. I used to have a Mytee that I would drain into a 5-gal bucket but it is too low for that. I hate draining into our trough drain in the shop, so we end up tipping a 5-gal bucket until it fills about half way.

- It has two cords, but they have to be plugged into different circuits. This isn't usually a problem except when we have two technicians using both of the extractors. Then it gets a little tricky to prevent blowing a fuse.

Those are all just little annoyances that are forgiven for a great extractor. I like it much better than my old Mytee. If you get it, you will be very happy with your purchase.

Well, I bought it today!!! I should get it middle of next week! I will give a report once I have used it a few times. Shouldnt take long to get some trigger time as I am way busy next week!!!

Excited!.................................................Chris :)

Todd, I finally got my Cobra H after holiday shipping delays...and WOW!!! I love it! I agree with your thoughts above but none of them are anything I have an issue dealing with. Great machine! I did my fathers 95 Chrysler T&C van as a test vehicle and what an incredible difference. The interior looks new again!

Thanks for your thoughts and sound advice!

US Products builds good stuff. I owned a carpet cleaning biz for almost 10 years before I sold it. What kind of chemicals do you plan on using?

At the moment I am using two products mixed in equal portions from PRO called Xtract Power and OdorNox. They work very well but I always keep my eyes and ears open for new products.

The only real issue I seem to be having is on some floor mats I have to go over heavily soiled spots a few times before they are really clean. I am premisting the areas I clean with the diluted product from the machine. I wonder if I should use a 50/50 or even a 100% dose of the Xtract Power to premist since it is labeled as a premist too.

Any thoughts?

I've used both Xtract Power and OdorNox, but neither as a mixture within the solution tank (just 100% water). Spray the Xtract Power directly onto the carpet (I think I used a 1:1, now I use Megs APC 4:1) and agitate. Then use the clean fresh water from the extractor to rinse. With very heavily soiled areas, I'd premist then wet with the hot water before agitating.

IMO, OdorNox is good for a scent neutralizer, but I hardly ever use it now. Xtract Power is an okay product but I just was never 100% happy with it. Also, since I started using a pressure washer to clean floor mats I have a hard time believing any extractor can compare... Presoak with cleaner, agitate, pressure wash until the water comes off clean, then extract.

On the web I would recommend Jon-Don Carpet Cleaning Products, Janitorial Supplies and Restoration Equipment, Ive purchased many things there over the years. For carpet, they have many good pre-spray/traffic lane cleaners. One of my favorites was ProChem Ultrapac. Might want to look into getting a de-foamer for your recovery tank.
