Need SSR 1 Help

I am applying SSR1 with a PC to a white Toyota Camry. After several passes I go to wipe off the residue and there is a hard film that I have to scrub on to get it off. Should I use a more agressive pad (light cut), use less product, more product, or just drink enough beer that it loses its importance?

I started with SSR2 and a green (light cut) propel pad and had some dusting on the final high speed pass. I popped on a blue (light polish) propel pad spread the SSR1 over half the roof on 2.5 then bumped it to 5 and made 2 passes.

I went to wipe off the remainder and there was a hard residue/film. First I used Exceldetails Yellow supreme then went with Meguiars detailing MF's with the tight weave. It took enough pressure that I was afraid of causing scratches.

I have used it before with no problems. That time it was hotter and there was more humidity.

I live in Austin Texas and the temperature is 67 with 23% humidity (for those of you laughing someone reading this post will want to know those numbers).

Your help is greatly appreciated.

does the film look like you can see were the buffer was? If so I have had this too. Try using a qd to remove the residue. If that doesnt work mix up some 50/50 isophroyl alcohal/water. Using the IPA removed the residue for me when it happend. Let us know how it works.

does this happen often?

nope.. really doesnt happen that often. Dont know why it did this time? SSR1 is a good product. Dont let this rare incident stray you away from using/purchasing it.

Sorry for the delay in response but I realized a possible solution while I was typing my question. I checked Excel Detail for a description of the pads I was using. They stated the light polish pad was meant for an AIO. I decided to try my spare light cut pad for the SSR1 since I didn't have a problem with SSR2.5.

Sure enough it minimized the effect. My neighbors probably think I am crazy for polishing my car until midnight but you understand.

As I stated in the previous message, I did not have this problem before and it was the same bottle of SSR. As for using a QD or S&G, is there a concern about applying a sealant (EX-P) afterwards?

However, I found EX-P a little difficult to remove this time. Is there something about cool, dry air that causes this problem?

For those of you concerned about Poorboys, don't be. I now have two bottles of EX-P, two bottle of SSR1, 1 bottle SSR2, 1 jar wheel sealant (a subtle shine that makes wheels easy to clean), S&G, QD+, Trim Restore and 4 jars of Nattys. Their products do a great job and I am stockpiling them when I can find them on sale.

I use them on my car only and I love the results. I am not a professional, just a passion. The first time I used the SSR's, I felt there was a haze left behind. I was new and had never used a PC or even a polish before. My car looked good but I was bothered by what I perceived to be a haze. This time I felt there was no haze. It is hard to describe and pictures wouldn't do it justice but I just felt the reflection was much crisper as I polished the car.

There is something to be said about trial and error. The first time I used speeds and pads recommended by someone else and came out with good results but felt I could do better. After following posts over several months, I decided to try again and feel I was successful. I still need a more agressive pad for some deep scratches but overall I am happy with my result. I finished polishing the car and have applied one coat of EX-P. I will apply another coat tomorrow and then work on a couple of coats of Nattys.

For anyone else just starting out, start slow but recognize you may need to be more aggressive. Step up incrementally and don't hesitate to give the next a level a shot. With a PC it is fairly difficult to make a major mistake.

As for pictures, here is my baby post one coat of EX-P. A 2002 Toyota Camry. Pardon the quality of the pictures but it is 1:30 in the morning.

The result looks lovely, what white should look like.
IMO, "haze" is usually, but not always, product that needs to be worked in more.
If there is haze left in the polish, the LSP will be tougher.

Nice job on the car.
When I use SSR1, I only use a polishing pad. From what you are describing it may either be that you were'nt working the product long enough, or you had too much product on the pad.

From a fellow Austinite (Cedar Park), it looks wonderfull. all of your hard work really paid off in my opinion.

The wildly fluctuating temperature and humidity here give me a fit sometimes too.
