Need some input...again.

As some of you may know, I spend a lot of time on here asking somewhat ridiculous, self-explanatory questions as I try to teach myself to polish with a rotary. Now I have one more.

I was thinking the other day that one of my main problems is that I'm still a little scared of ruining the paint. I recently started using the Optimum line....with the long work time....and I always think that I'm polishing too long and will eventually break through the clearcoat, and still don't see any results.

Now, being that I'm not seeing any results on swirls and scratches that don't catch the fingernail, I could/should polish until I achieve some correction, no matter how long I'm running the buffer for, right?

Thanks again, guys.

Well if you are not seeing any correction at all I would first say that your foam pad probably does not have enough cut. What optimum polish and pad are you using?

I've been using different combos of a bunch of stuff...i.e. OP with different Edge wools, some LC foams....but what I meant was that with any polish/pad combo, I would see some correction before I had a rotary disaster, right?

Well.....that depends :)

The key to a rotary is using VERY SLOW speeds when you first start out. You'll see some correction that way, provided you have the right pad/product combo. If you used a finishing pad with a pure polish, I doubt you would see much correction at all.

If you are using a LC cutting pad, you will see the correction. Just be careful, and don't go past 1500rpm if possible.
