Richard's Detailing
New member
Hi guys! I’m new here and I want to detail cars and trucks for extra income. I’m planning to do at least 2-3 cars on the weekends and when I get comfortable maybe bump it up to 4-5 cars per week. I already setup an LLC for tax and insurance reasons. I will be starting on my SUV this weekend and then on my family and friends cars afterwards. I was wondering if I can get some advice to get the correct process down before I tackle someone else’s car. I listed below all of the items I have so far. Please feel free to tell me what items you think I need to get so that I can be more efficient in detailing. I know I’ll need more pads but I don’t know which ones to get and how many I should have available since I’m only planning to detail a car maybe twice a week.
Items I have so far:
Porter Cable 7414 w/ 6 inch backing plate
Cleaning products:
Poorboy’s Light Abrasive Swirl Remover SR1
Poorboy’s Medium Super Swirl Remover SSR2.5
Poorboy’s Natty’s Blue Paste Wax
Poorboy’s Spray & Gloss
Poorboy’s Spray & Wipe Waterless Wash
Poorboy's World Bug Squash 16 Ounce
Poorboy's World SSR2 Super Swirl Remover
Poorboy's EX Sealant (32 oz)
Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba (Blue) Dark color cars
Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba
Poorboy's white diamond
4 Clay bars
Meguiars Car wash soap
Back to Black
NXT Tech 2.0 Wax – don’t know if I should use this
Tire dressing – forgot what brand
Wheel Cleaner – forgot what brand
Chrome Polish – forgot what brand
Interior:
Misc brushes
Lexol leather cleaner
Lexol leather conditioner
NXT Tech Protectant
Pads and cleaner:
1 CCS 6.5 inch Gray Dual Action Finishing Pad
1 CCS 6.5 inch Orange Dual Action Light Cutting Pad
1 CCS 6.5 inch White Dual Action Polishing Pad
12 oz. Pinnacle XMT Polishing Foam Pad Cleaner
Towels:
2 Cobra Microfiber Towels, 16 x 16
2 Big (bath size) Microfiber towels – BJ’s
14 regular microfiber towels 16x16
2 Microfiber Wash mitts
1 Microfiber Car duster
Misc:
5HP 6 Gallon Wet Dry Vac w/ attachments
Dual 500w Halogen work lamp
12’ Extension cord – should I buy something longer?
25’ Hose w/ a trial foam gun
Interior brushes
Tire and wheel brushes
I’m planning to go to customer’s place, use their water and electricity for vacuum, PC and Lighting.
Do most of you guys start with the interior first or the exterior?
For exterior detail, what should my process be like using the products I listed above?
1.Wash – Rinse – Clay – Rinse – Dry – Tape emblems and such
2.Not sure what steps for PB and which pad to use. Please help
3.Sealant (using which pad?) – Wax – After buffing wax using PB, do I need to apply anything else?
4.Remove tape and work on emblems and trims
For interior I’m planning to just vacuum, wipe dash, leather seats, trims and wipe inside windows for now. I don’t know which products are good for removing stains from cloth seats, carpets and mats. What does a full interior detail consists of? I don’t have a carpet extractor, just a shopvac with attachments.
Sorry for the long post.
Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
