Need some Component Speakers....

I am going to be getting some Component Speakers, I am looking at some Sony's 5-1/4's anyone have some?



I can't find them locally to listen to them but I have found a good price here:Sony component speakers. I would like some Bostons but they are getting a little expensive and hard to find online cheap so this is my second choice.



Has anyone bought anything from www.sounddomain.com?
 
check out www.thezeb.com. I personally would stay away from the Sony's though. I had a set of XPlod's and I think they sound terrible! They are pretty bright, which is ok, and the bass response is poor, which is to be expected from a 5 1/4 component, but it seems real distorted and distant.



Tell us a little bit more about your audio preferences/goals and what else you have. I really like the a/d/s, but they are going to be pricey, and the CDT's are great too.
 
I bought my truck about two months ago and now its time for my stereo! I have a Sony CDXM750 ES head unit I am going to be upgrading to the new Sony CDXM8800 after I get the speakers going. I have a 8" Sony sub and an MTX amp to power it, I have two MTX amps so I could use one for the fronts and one for the sub and not use the rears. I would like to also get another sub in the near future since I have the room now for a lager one. My old truck could really only fit the 8" and nothing more.



I don't want anything to BLAM! You know just something with some highs/mids/lows, not the stock nothing. I am not competing, I don't want to spend a bunch of money and I want to keep it as near stock looking. I want something that sounds good everyday for any music nothing to over the top, yet be able to turn it up a little and enjoy it. Some sound with some substance, clean and clear.



I am a Sony nut! Darn near every electronic I own is Sony I have had nothing but good luck with their products with awesome customer service.



Any help or ideas would be great!
 
IMHO Sony speakers suck. Both for the Auto and Home. I would spend the extra bucks and buy a speaker that can really deliver a jaw dropping experience. MB Quart, Xtant, JL, Memphis just to name a few. But those may be alittle on the high side of pricing. Alpines Type-R speakers (I know the name sounds cheesy) sound excellent, they have a great distribution between the treble, mids, and bass. Infinity and Polk are good, but are geared more toward the consumer that wants a better than good sounding speaker at an affordable price.



In my car though, I'm in the process of saving up some money and installing a few pairs of Alpine Typ-R speakers.
 
Sounds like a no on the sonys then huh?! You know the guy at the audio store I went to today said would he get the Alpine Typ-R as well, with out spending a lot of cash. I was looking at some Boston NX87 but I really want a component set.

Given that you *should* be running the splits through a crossover unit, there should be no bass whatsoever. Thats why you get component speakers, so the bass is supplied from your woofers ( generally from behind as bass is non-directional).

I have had MB Quartz in the past and agree with you that they are great ( some complain they are too "tinny" but I never found that personally ), but I am guessing a little out of budget.

And I also agree that Polk would be a good compromise speaker ( ie sound quality v price ).



And my guess would be that you'll find the 8" sub "below par" in a short time so I'd strongly recommend looking into upgrading that to at least a 10", preferably 12". You might not think there is room, but consult and expert and Im sure they will be able to guide you on how best to get something bigger in there.
 
Check out http://www.carreview.com, they have many reviews of speakers from different brands, check that out before you make your final decision. I'm not going to recommend any speakers to you, you know different strokes for different folks. What I would recommend is going to every car stereo store you can find and listen to all of their speakers in your price range. You might even find a higher-end coaxial that sounds better than components you have heard. Go with what sounds best to you.
 
Focal is great to along with Boston, My friend had Boston's in his thunderbird and they sounded excellent, they had just the right amount of cripsness. And yes component speakers do have bass, albeit not a whole lot of course, but it is there.
 
I have Memphis Audio 6.5 coaxials.....and love them, they are super clear and are amped to a 5 channel Kicker. There is a local place to me that is selling their Memphis components for cheap, since they arent a dealer anymore. Thier 6.5in is selling for something like 150$....I used to have Audiobahn and didnt know what I was missing till I got my Memphis spkears:)

I've got some Infinity Kappa 6.5 coax that dropped (well, with minor surgery) into my stock rear speaker pods. Very clean sound and good bass. Something to think about if you want a stealth system.
 
There's some good info on the Sounddomain forums about building your own speakers. Madisound.com is a great place for the components.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Infinity Kappas. I was looking at the components of these down at Circuit City a few weeks ago. I listened to them back to back against some of the other component speakers, and there was no comparison. They're excellent, although they're quite pricey.
 
i would look at brax componets i prefer them over some lower end focals and i got a set new for about 285 sound awsome and have incredibly loud midrange i had to eq them down



these will blow away about any thing you will find at best buy or circut city including infinty IMO
