Need some adivce...Porsche and MG

I guess I could say this would be my first real detailing job. I am going to be doing a 1979 Porsche and an MG. I went over and looked at the cars today, they are in good condition, some light swirling, but overall in excellent condition. Is there anything I need to watch for with older cars?

-I will be doing my wash with the tropi-care wash.

-Hitting the car with a clay bar.

-Any tips on polishing porsches? I have done a Mercedes and a Camaro. I have Mezerna intensive polish and tropi-care polish. I have white, blue, orange and yellow lake country pads.

-Wheels with the tropi-care wheel and tire dressing

Any tips would be appreciated. Pics too follow!

If they're original, the paint will be a little different. I can't say what they will be like to buff, as I have not performed correction on vehicles of that vintage. It's almost certainly single stage which means it will appear that the paint is coming off the car. That's normal. Otherwise, just use normal technique and proceed with caution.

Yeah, if they're original paint (that's a mighty big "if" IMO) they'll be single stage. Don't freak out if you get a lot of paint transfer to your pads, don't get too aggressive, especially on edges.

I often like Meg's stuff on single stage...maybe #80 for the correction and then a carnauba (as opposed to a sealant).

You should ask the owner if it has been repainted and when. If repainted in the late 80's, you can figure it may be clear coated if not then count on it being single stage.

One thing to remember is to be gentle around the emblems and such as you do not want to break them off.
