Hi

I received a call today from a customer wanting me to detail 3 vehicles. Mustang / Escalade / Viper

I know this person keeps their cars in good shape but I havent seen them up close.

The mustang needs carpet / engine cleaning and a wax but I am guessing its more than that.

The customer lives down the street and this could turn into a repeat business.  They also mentioned their kids cars are detailed by a competitor.

I have the potential to gain additional business.

Just so you know, I charge $250 for a polish and wax.  SUV's cost extra.

Here is my thinking at this point on how to charge.

1. Visual inspection of all 3.

2. match needs to existing detail packages

3. offer 20% discount on the Mustang and regular charges for remaining vehicles.

What would you guys do in this situation?

How much should I charge for a black Escalade on the packages above?

Thank you

whatever your time is worth...its going to vary depending on your business model, supply choices, demographics, area, time it takes YOU, etc.

Don't discount your services to match a competitor, all your doing is devaluing yourself. Instead, SELL the customer on WHY you are better and WHAT exactly he is getting with YOU that makes you better than your competitor. I am always selling myself to customers, and part of what they gain when they go with me is my accessibility. I am always available via phone, email, and text and I regularly send picture updates throughout whatever process is being performed. Based upon the feedback I receive, customers absolutely love this.

I pulled this customer away from a competitor. When I first spoke to the customer I got the impression I was being asked for a package price for 3 vehicles.  Then after meeting them the topic didnt come up.  That was a relief.  They also increased the number of vehicles from 3 to 4.  I detailed the first for 4 vehicles the customer will bring to me over the next 3 months. The car was a repainted 2008 Mustang and got a basic wash and wax because paint protection was more important than shine to them. They were also cost conscious and didnt want to spring for the polish package.

I have a show car vette in the garage and presented it to the customer as an example of the results that can be accomplished with a full polish package.  I think its important for a new customer to see examples of previous work.

I went over and above on the first vehicle and gave them a few services for no charge.  The reason being, this customer will be a repeat customer and I wanted to make a good first impression. I dont plan on being so generous in the future but wanted to establish trust in my abilities.  They were very pleased with my results.  I pointed out the car has a lot of over spray and should be compounded and polished.  I also pointed out the chrome rims were becoming cloudy and needed polished.  This customer has a social circle that includes people who have high end vehicles.  In the long run, word will get out.

Thank you all for your advice.

compounding and polishing are the after tools for overspray removal...You need to clay, sand, etc to get the overspray off...then go about the polishing efforts needed.  I have never once been able to COMPOUND overspray off
