Need honest opinion, thinking of changing business name

So right now we have a small operation registered with the state. We are thinking changing the name of it.

Our current business name is "Optimum Detailing"

Should we keep it or change names

The name may clash a bit with Optimum Technologies, the makers of "Optimum" products.

One of the better names to go with, if placing an ad in the yellow pages, is a name that starts with "A" as this will place you at the top of others. It has been found that many people who use the phone book usually go for the first listing.

Or use you first name or if this is a partnership fo with your first initials.

Good luck on your business,

Anthony

Personally, I would stay with Optimum Detailing.

The definition of the word optimum means to be the best. Basically, your business name is telling people that you are the best in detailing. So I would work up the image that your detailing business is the best.

Here is an example:

Optimum Detailing

We do the right things right!

Detailgirl ... just interested... what do you doubt or dislike about your current name "Optimum Detailing" ?

Just interested in what you are trying to achieve by changing name :)

Personally it is a bit of a tongue twister....say the name a few times and perhaps some of you may understand what I am getting at.

If I could do my name all over again (which I can but it's a pain now after 16 years) I would choose something short and sweet, very simple. A name which can be easily identified by its logo alone. Think along those lines.

Rule number 1, which i made this mistake. Dont put your own name in the business name due to the fact that you never know what happens. Down the road you can become very successful and think maybe it is time to sell the business. If you keep your name out of it, your business can be sold for alot of money just for the name itself since it brings a strong reputation.

Sam Walton would beg to differ.

I change my name from Wash Me Mobile Detailing to John's Mobile Auto Detailing and I think has help with business. It does cost to change your name, new business card, signs etc.
