Need help with wax application

Hey guys. I'm starting to think I'm the biggest tard on earth but I can't seem to wax my car without the wax going on uneven and leaving some patches darker than others. I only have this problem with carnaubas and not my sealants. I've used IW 845 and pink wax by hand and by PC and both have the same results. Is there something that I'm doing wrong that leads to these uneven splotches? Usually the uneven application is most noticible on the horizontal surfaces. My usual steps prior to waxing are QEW or optimum equivalent, FPII if needed, and a quick once over with a QD such as eagle one mothers. The car is a berlina black Honda S2000.

have you tried 2 thin coats to even things up?? the most common mistake is too much wax

It may not be your application methods thats cause your uneven patches. When you remove it mist the area very lightly with water. That may help out !!
