Here is what I have thus far. This will be an in house operation, utilizing my 2.5 car garage. No plans of offering mobile services. I'm located in Glen Ellyn, IL. One problem I've been having is finding competition to compare my rates with. I'm working on an interior and a la carte menu right now. Just need to figure out a few more odds and ends..

Please note, I do intend on offering Cquartz and Opti Guard coatings. Is $300 + prep work an acceptable figure? Should the coating options be listed on the a la carte menu?

First of all, you need to divide your hours spent by the money made, and take out expenses. That is what you make per hour. Is that acceptable to you? If so your prices are good, just make sure they match your market.

Also... I would cut the "customer specified" dressing. Most detailing clients do not know or care what type of products you put on, plus you are the expert, YOU should know what product to apply. Of course if you have a detailing savy client, and they want a specific product, make them happy as a clam and provide it, as long as you or they have it.

Your multi step polish package.. do not include opti coat or cquarts in the package. A lot of people will not want the added expense. You should offer paint coatings as add-ons to your current packages, or stand alone services.

Think of a name to call each detail packages... eg. express, majestic, divine etc. People will associate more with that than "multi step polishing". Most people do not understand what that means.

Hope this helps a bit! Developing a menu is an extremely important step.

No interior work? I would think that the interior should be getting some attention in all phases of the packages.

I'll be offering 3-4 exterior package options along with 2-3 interior options as well as the standard a la carte menu.

Might want to have it listed as "prices starting at...", got to make sure someone can't show up with a trashed minivan and hold you to a price.

BTW, lived in Glen Ellyn for a couple years in the early 70s, went to Glen Crest JH.

Good point, Scott. I hadn't even considered that.

My wife and I have lived in Glen Ellyn for almost three years now. We really enjoy the community!
