Need help w/ideas for removing remnants

for lack of a better word.

On the rear of my Honda Element, today, using the time-tested heat/floss/goo-gone method, I removed the "Element" logo. It came off fine, with the expected minor scratches and stuff I'll need to polish out, BUT, it left the outline of the lettering.

I'm fairly certain that will come out with polishing (I'm thinking Poor Boys Professional polish by hand for now).

Do you guys think that will do the trick?

I agree it should work depending on the age and amount of sun exposer.

Not familiar with poorboys yet it may work since it's a polish. Follow up with some wax. If you have a PC it should do the trick. A rotoary definately would.

Sun exposure isn't that long really, it's still fairly new (I think the manufacture date of the car was in October of last year).

I do have a PC, just difficult to get a place to do the work (I live in an apartment, park in a parking garage, and have limited access to a place with power, etc. to work on it).

Thanks!

Just curious as to why you would want to remove your cars logo? This isn't a dealer logo right, its the actual "honda element" logo? Do you think it looks better without the logo or what? Sorry, I have just not heard of this yet, unless it pertains to a dealer advertisment.

The Honda logo (the stylized H) remains. The lettering that says "ELEMENT" is odd looking and because it is only one side, makes the rear look lopsided.

It's nothing unusual, removal (or shaving) of those emblems is pretty common.

Indeed :)

All that's left on mine now is just the "H" that's dead center. . . I like it (for now, I may take that one off later).

I just need to get the PC out to clean up the spot where the "ELEMENT" was. What looked like "outlines" yesterday was actually untouch area that was behind the original plastic piece. The open area between the letters was scuffed up a bit and made it look like an outline because the space that was covered by adhesive was smooth and clean.

It's not visible in regular light, so I'm thinking it'll buff out pretty easily.

I'm going to try cleaning it up by hand in a few minutes. If that works, YAY! If not, I'll have to wait for the weekend and bust out the PC.

Yup the less stuff on your car the better(too much clutter). there used to be badges on either side off the rings.

Absolutely better to debadge :xyxthumbs Saves time detailing and looks better too.

I've been debadging/etc. since my first new car ('77 Trans Am, which everybody else wanted covered with decals  ).

cj99si- I did my wife's A8 exactly like your A4, that's the right look for Audis IMO, just like the factory did the old V8s. I even took the rings off on my S8, but everybody except me thinks I should've left them on ;) (I was after the "anonymous sedan" look and I got it)

ET Awful- I bet that looks great that way, sounds like how I have the MPV now. Sometimes the ghosting will fade a bit with repeated polishing even if it doesn't completely go away the first time. As long as the paint hasn't faded/not under the clear you oughta be OK. Since you say it's not all that visible, I'd go easy and figure that a) only you see it now anyhow b) it'll get polished a lot over the years so you don't have to do it 100% now.

Any pics of the debadged S8?

It does look pretty good, and the marks aren't all that visible unless you're looking for them, it's basically a bunch of very faint scratches. I think they'll come out with less effort than I put into the hood.

I'll post pics when I get a chance. It rained today, so the whole car looks pretty dirty and nasty right now (dust followed by rain does not make ET a happy camper).

I'm half tempted to get rid of the "H" too, but I'm not sure whether it has pins or not, and I'd hate to get halfway through and find out it did :).

Here's my 03 TT debadged. Process was heat w/ wifes hair dryer, remove w/ floss and follow with scratchX by hand to clean up. IMO it's a mod that takes minimal effort ,but makes a big difference.

Here's my 03 TT debadged. A much cleaner look IMO.

process was as follows :

Heat w/ wife's hair dryer (she was worried at first, after it was done she came around)

Remove w/ floss

Clean up area w/ hand application of scratchX

Nah, I'm hopeless when it comes to pics as I only shoot 35mm amd I've never scanned/uploaded any. The only pics I have of it at all are right after the deer incident (field-expedient repairs with black gaffer's tape) when it looked all Ronin-ed out (as in, *after* the chase scenes ;) ). Note to self: those really *would* be good to post...

I keep thinking I oughta take pics of it and the A8 side by side so people can see how they look with either just the rings or with nothing.

Your Honda looks good with the nosed look on the front. IMO too many people who do the blacked-out grill thing on Audis make them look crappy, but that car looks nice and clean that way.

ET Awful- I'd think twice about removing the H. I could've easily had it done that way on the MPV (remove the "M" ) since I was having holes welded shut anyhow, but I decided to keep it and IMO it looks better that way.

PelTTing- Yeah, that looks good.

Post them up. I think every post should have pics............Something about ADD or something.

I like that look.

I have been thinking of debadging my g35 specifically to rid myself of the INFINITI letters since they always snag my MF towels  :chuckle:

My 92 Prelude didn't have any emblems at all. Funny how many people would ask what kind of car it was haha.

It might be a little too tough for this approach, but when I removed the dealer sticker from my trunk (a couple dozen individual letter stickers), I was able to clean things up with just a bit of clay.

Heh heh, I've had plenty of LEOs ask me that when writing up the tickets :o

cj99si- Heh heh, yeah, I really oughta invest the time/effort....just seems like I spend so much time online as it is :o
