Need Help!! One 3 cars and 2-car garage...how can I protect one that sits outside?

We recently acquired a 3rd car (new driver coming up) and needed more wheels. No matter how I stack and rearrange, there is no way I will be able to get all 3 in the garage now.

(For the record, I knew my OCD was bad with keeping the cars detailed at all times...what I didn`t know was how this OCD manifest into the extremes when faced with the realization that a car would have to sit out!!)

I keep all my rides waxed and clean...they never get washed without a proper wipe down afterwards with some OCW, Aqua Wax or Ultimate Quik Wax to prolong all the waxing efforts).

What I`m wondering is what else can I do to ensure that the finishes don`t start to diminish after sitting out? Wondered about a car cover for the smallest one, with plenty of wax to help ensure no scratches or marring takes place.

Any suggestions?

A ceramic coating or paint protection film. Depends on how much you care to spend

Would the paint protection film be something like the 3M film that is available for door sills, front bumpers, etc?

I was thinking more along the lines of a car cover...it will get driven every day, so something that is easy on/off is crucial.

Heh heh, I don`t think it`s OCD to keep one`s vehicles properly detailed at all times :D

I used to have one vehicle outside 24/7/52...took a lot of work and I simply couldn`t keep it the way I wanted- think "Winter". So I was faced with going back to storing something off-site. Finally decided enough was enough and quit accumulating so many vehicles, gave that outdoor one to my wife`s niece.

Easy for me to spend your money, but I`d find a place to store the extra car (I stored at least one car for ages before building The New Garage). Then I`d decide whether it was really worth it to me. That`s what eventually lead me to sell the extras (when even The New Garage couldn`t really hold `em all).

Car sitting outside is going to get driven to school everyday, so while the OCD in me loves the idea of a separate garage altogether, it isn`t feasible to do that every day.

Are there car covers that can provide protection without scratching paint?

Deal with the same thing here in NE Ohio for 8 months outta the year, give or take.

Picked up a brand new Honda Civic in October 2016; coated it immediately with Kamikaze products. Driven daily thru winter, sits outside from April thru December. Rain, bird bombs, wet leaves...all have sat on the paint for extended time with no ill effects to the paint. Wash it occasionally and it still looks great, no water spots, no stains from crap falling from trees....nothing. Coat it, hit with an SiO2 booster (Overcoat) on occasion...good to go.

Did a fleet vehicle here at work last February 20th, 2 coats Gyeon Mohs + Gyeon Cure. Has pretty much sat outside and driven/treated like a red-headed stepchild all summer, never washed except for Mother Nature raining on it, still looks good....no stains or spots on paint. An (relatively) economical but effective coating choice, 30ml kit could likely cover your car twice unless it`s something large, then go for 50ml kit. With 50ml kit could likely get 3 layers. If you do it, cut Cure 50-50 with distilled water, spray on towel, apply that way...less streaking. I think Mohs is a pretty good choice for a circumstance like yours....about $150 and you`re good to go. Can top with Gyeon Can Coat after a week for a little more gloss/protection/longevity.

You must be reading my mind....this is a 2016 Honda Civic also.

So, it sounds like a sealant method is recommended. I have a coat of Collinite "double-coat" on it right now for posterity and protection for the interim. I have Klasse (both SG and AIO), should I put a coat of SG on it and then maintain regular wax/wash/spray detail regimens?

Never heard of Kamikaze...just curious if it`s similar to Klasse. I`m in Iowa, so likely going to see similar climates.

When my son was going away to school, I applied a coating to his Civic. It sat outside under pine tress, and only was washed when he came home every 3-4 months. It looked fine after 2 years. We do not have the harsh winter weather that you do, but the coating worked great.
Find one that strikes your fancy or ask for recommendations. I used an old version of Garry Dean`s Infinite Diamond Shield.

This is all great feedback...thanks everyone for all the responses.

So can someone crush or support my thoughts on a car cover if that would be feasible?

The only cover i trust not to marr or scratch is a garage or dedicated hard stand

Any type of cover is going to mar the paint just because of the nature of the beast. Dirt and dust get under it and then wind hits it doing a sandpaper number on it. In my mind it is still better than leaving the car outside without a cover. I bought my last cover on eBay. Just don`t buy one of those plastic covers. Make sure it breathes, and be prepared to buy a new one in around 2 years.

All but one of my cars sits outside 24x7 and they do get dirty, but with the right coatings its manageable. If these were show cars, I get it, but for DD, if I can swing it so can you. (I avoid black cars anyway bc I cannot get them to look like a want for more than a passing few minutes no matter what)

I dunno about sealants, cant speak to that, Kamikaze and Gyeon Mohs are ceramic/quartz/glass coatings. They`ve worked well.

I know I`d get tired of a car cover pretty quick and I`d guess it would scratch on and it all the time as mentioned.

I got rid of my `fun` car two years ago because I just got tired of `4 cars, 2 car garage` thing.

My thoughts would be to pack up the stuff in the garage and bring it to a storage facility if that would work to clear enough room for the 3rd car. Other thought is a carport tent I think they are called. Neighbor has one and so far after a year it seems to be quite durable and it is still standing through our cold blustery winter we had. Being in a small town it is somewhat protected from straight line winds. It is one of those fully enclosed ones. If you want I can grab a camera and head down the street and take a snapshot if that would help.

I have no suggestions as far as coatings and such. Good luck with the 3rd car.

IME if you layer the KSG X6 it will protect very well for quite a long time. That`s what I used before switching to the FK1000P that I`m always going on about.
