Need Help on Finding a Buffer

I have been looking into buying a buffer and not sure which one to get. I been looking at the Dewalt dw849. Is it any good? What about any other types? Anyone have any suggestions?
So this might be a stupid question but I'm a newbie and not with all the lingo yet. What is a PC? Is that a some type of buffer?

PC = Porter Cable random orbit buffer. Variable speed.

You can get it through our sponsors or locally at Lowe's or Home Depot.

The model number at Lowe's is 7336. All you'll need is a backing plate/pad combo.

The PC is a good tool for beginners like me. It would be very hard to mess up paint with it.
 
I have a the De Walt and althought I have never used the Porter Cable. I've have no problems with the De Walt. The only problem that I have is the backing plate is about 5 1/4 inches that is a little larger around than the 6 inch pads.

The velcro backing is about 4 3/4 inches around. What happens is that it eats into the foam pads after a while. You can go to a larger pad but then that does not give you the action on the surface of the car.

The guys at Edge pads are working on a new backing plate that will fit the pads better.
 
PC generally refers to their DA machine. I have the Dewalt, great rotary! :bigups

In addition to the PC and Dewalt, I also have the Cyclo :D

I'd highly suggest to anyone looking only into a dual action to go for the Cyclo, wonder build quality, gets the job done without bogging down unlike the PC. I just wish the 4" Lake Country pads I use on it were widely available.

If you decide to "take the plunge" with a rotary rather than a PC, you should take a look at the LC tufted 8" pads intended for rotary use.

They're very forgiving, much more so than wool, & they'll provide good service while you're learning, and provide a stepping stone to wool pads.

I've got a yellow pad I use with SSR2.5 or IP, and a white pad I use with FPII.

Just did my Dad's '93 Mercury & didn't damage the paint in any way while giving it a shine he hadn't seen in years. Second car I've done with a rotary & it still intimidates me so no wool pads for a while.
