ive been looking at new mf towels. i have narrowed it down to

excel detials' blue supreme polishing towel which is 2.49 (16x16)

and the Pakshak's i was gonng get a bunch of different ones.

My thing is that the pakshak towels are expensive. for like 90 bucks you only get an assorted amount of towels which is like 9.

On the excel detail side i can get 40 towels for a hundred bucks.

for every 10 bucks you spend you get an extra towel or something like that. thats an advantage.

I dont mind spending a hundred bucks but should i sacrafice 30+ towels going with one company over the other?

I wouldnt. Im not a m.f. expert, but if a company is selling towels to people here, they are most likely good towels :)

Hey Jay,

From experience the yellow and blue supreme towels are well worth the money. They rate up there with the rest of the "more expensive towels". IMHO I would stick with Excel towels. For the price theres no way they can be beat. Before he got rid of them I bought about 40 of the entry level towels, which I found to be very nice especially for like a buck each.

To some extent you get what you pay for, but only if you shop around. What I mean by that is for a given towel quality, you may see it at one place for $5, and at another for $10, but you're not going to get it for $2.50. My experience with the Excel Detail towels is that it is difficult or impossible to find what he sells for less. I have found some other towels that are slightly thicker/plusher at a higher price. The high end Excel towels also have a smooth edging on them, which you have to decide if you like.

Having said that, I have no experience with PakShak towels, so I can't comment on their price/value equation.

thanks for the replies. i emailed ranay so ill see what kind of a discount they offer.

Josh did you find out when that package will be delivere?

You can't beat Excel's price on MFs. Excellent quality and fast shipping. Pakshak has terrific towels as well and you should at least get some of the ultra fines for QDing. Maybe get 30 towels from Excel and a small assortment from Pakshak. See what you like best and go from there.

Ranney has amazing discounts for Autopians. I have been very pleased with his towels.

As soon as I get a few extra $$, I'll be placing an order with Excel.

You don't want ALL your towels to be the top quality, plushest towels btw. The plushest towels are great for removing LSPs, but the middle grades are better for removing cleaners, polishes and glazes. The short-nap mfs are better for wipe on-wipe off LSPs; the longer nap mfs are better for the haze/remove LSPs (the long-nap mfs are so good at what they do that they remove too much product, in my experience).

Get a nice selection of various grades and types, then learn for yourself which ones best fit your style of working and preferred products.

Tom

well i already have some MF's from TOL which are pretty good im just looking for some more general purpose i.e polish, glaze, cleaners, for windows and such. Then im also looking for more of the plush ones for LSP's and final haze removing on windows and or QD'ing.

I agree... pick up a few from here and there, but buy the bulk of them from Excel. To me buying from somewhere else and spending 6 bucks for a towel that may be SLIGHTLY plusher is not worth the extra 3-4 dollars.

Jay you forgot to PM me back with a tracking number...lol.

ERC Towel co advertise in car professional car wash mag. I have used them for over a year they hold up well. I'm just a week end polisher for friends and family guy. 1-800 225 9473 phone. I think you have to buy bundles like 50 of 14x14" blue towels. for $50.00. They just sell towels so they have all sizes etc. I've been happy with them .I have given a lot of them away to my son & his friends and they liked them. Why not dad paid for them right. They are not the cheap target Wal mart type towels good quailty.

Tom makes a good point. The Excels will be your workhorses, and then get Ranney's ultra fines for your finishing work. A few waffle weaves wouldn't hurt either.

Here are the prices from Ranney. what a great deal, I cann't wait to get my towels.
