hey guys, i'm stumped here and need some help

working on the hood of the car, but this haze that i can't seem to get rid of.

thought they were microabrasions from the weather/dust. there used to be a bra on the grille, and a clear line is seen on the hood where the bra was. also same haze on the roof above the windshield.

washed meg's carwash, clayed meg's aggressive bar

pc with dacp with megs red cutting pad, twice over

tried scratchx on yellow buffing pad on a portion also. helped minimal

any ideas or suggestions on what to do next??

thanks

In those pictures unfortunately it is hard for me to see what you are talking about due to the reflections.

What products do you have on hand to use...Any Menzerna FPII or Optimum Polish?

Also, do you have any pads other than the yellow? Most yellow pads are aggressive..To get rid of micromarring you need to use a polishing pad or finishing pad.

What are all those white things we see in the picture, I'm hoping that is something being reflected off the ceiling?

I can't be absolutely positive, but it seems to me that the clearcoat is failing and the paint is starting to wear thin. Is this an old car or a fairly new one? (A guess: Is it a Lexus GX470?) If you could take a few more pictures, it would probably be better :)

the 3 whitish stripes in between the nozzles, travelling the length of the hood....that is my problem. not a reflection... sorry about the image. tried my best to minimize reflections from the wall panels..

i have always used meg's products, never tried others for some reason

so i have: meg's dacp, swirl remover 2.0 and scratchx for my cleaners

have meg's foam finishing and polishing pads. also hvae the sonus das-pad kit with it's blue and green pads...

thanks

2000 lx470. wondered about failing clearcoat... but i have no way to tell really. feels fine, but that really don't mean much do it...

To start, the Meg's red 7006 (burgandy) pad has a lot of cut and will leave marring that will need to be polished out with a finer polish like Meg's #80 (or FPII/OPT like Joshua312 suggested) on a polish pad.

If the yellow pad you used is a Meg's 8006 then that is OK since it's a polishing pad, but if it was a yellow cutting pad you need to use a polish pad instead.

I can't tell about the haze from your pictures, but since it extends so far up on your hood (unless those are reflections) it wasn't caused by the bra, at least not that far up. I almost hate to say it, but that could be clear coat failure, but it's hard to tell w/o some better (close-up) pictures. Was that haze there before you started polishing?

I've got what looks like the same thing going on with my car. Just curious......if you wipe the white area with a damp cloth; does the "white" go away but re-appears when it dries?

I don't know what that indicates or if I want to know what it indicates, but maybe someone else will know.

to answer your questions/posts

-it was like this from the start, i have made it no worse nor better...

-doesnt change wet or dry...

-i usually follow dacp with swirl remover 2.0 on a polishing pad, but paused to get some input and advice before i moved on...

-i used the 8006 polishing pad, and have a 9006 handy as well

-no dont think its from the bra. just noted that the paint/clearcoat under the bra is intact and preserved (dont have a good pic yet)

i'm putting two more pics up, may not help... i'll take some in the morning outside, hope for better images

thanks for the responses and input..

The more I look at your original pictures I'm still thinking CC failure. A good daylight shot close-up would help if possible. You could also stop by almost any decent body shop and they could tell right away what's going on. Do you know if the areas where this shows up have been repainted at some point in time?

I don't think you're going to be able to correct this one. It's either bad clear or the base coat is bleaching. Has this hood been repainted?? If so, get with the body shop who did the repair and have them contact their paint distributor to see if it's covered under their warranty. Most paint companies have a lifetime warranty against defects. It looks more like product failure rather than human error.

this is factory/oem lexus paint. no damage, never repainted (not well taken care of either prior to me coming home with my gear to visit the folks).

thanks for the sad news, i'll post new pics in the morning

Most likely out of the factory warranty. Isn't it amazing that if a body shop paints it, the paint manufacturer will stand behind it for the life of the vehicle, but if the factory paints it, they warranty it for 3-5 years(depending). I wonder why there's a difference?

Did you buy the vehicle new? Have you ever had it buffed or detailed by a professional before? I feel bad for you. I bought a lexus from carmax a couple of years ago and later found out that it had misalligned body panels and a not so great repaint.

I would take it back to a Lexus Dealership and ask them what the problem is. Ask to speak with the area rep. and tell him what happened. Keep complaining going higher up the ladder each time you talk to Lexus. If necessary file complaints to the BBB and consumer affairs. A 5 year old paint job should not look like that.

vehicle was bought new. never been detailed before

it's outside the warranty, but you better believe lexus is going to here about it

thanks

Yea, it's a shame.. But if it were protected by wax, it wouldn't be like that, right? Not by any means that this should happen to 5 year old paint, just asking.
