This is not a joke. I live in Conn. that name of my town is Mianus.(if you don't believe, please look up on google).

now that that is cleared up, I have gotten a DBA, Ins, ect., I originally used the name of my town but didn't think twice(cause I'm used to the name)
I choose -Mianus polishing & cleaning service-
I'm having trouble getting many detailing jobs, many of the people that I send flyers to never heard of my town and think its a joke. Any suggestions would greatly help.

I don't think that your name clearly defines that you are an "auto detailer" - perhaps something that includes "that" in your name would help. For example (and my apologies to any whose names I may be borrowing) Pinnacle Auto Detailing, Shiney Cars R Us, Exquisite Auto Detailing Service, etc.

oh , thats a good idea, perhaps something like - "Mianus Shiney Cars R Us"-
or -Mianus Auto Detailing Service-?, I wanted something more "original", those are good ideas, but they sound like every other detailer, (no offense)

Good thing the town isn't called Knob(Knob Polishing):rofl . Watch using the "R Us" line my friends towing companys was called Tows R Us until Toys R Us lawyers sent him a letter.

How about Hometown Polishing & Cleaning Service or something like that? That would even make for an easy logo design. There are a billion other options for a name that don't incorporate your city name in it. I'm sure you can find one. ;)

personally I would lose the MIANUS,and anything else would work.
the quality work you do will speak for itself .IMO

yes, but as I said, my insurance, and DBA have the town name in them, so I need to keep it as similar as possible, so I don't have to go through the whole process again. yes, I could just start over, but it will be eaiser if I just pick a new, yet similar name.

The 'process' isn't so hard that it is worth dealing with a name that gets you no respect in the industry. I'd do what you need to do in order to change it. No matter what you change it will still be different than it is right now and you will still have to go through the process. Pay the $20 or so bucks and change your DBA. Inform your insurance company of the name change and that should be it.

telling me to change it isn't the help I expected. or maybe it was. I am proud of my town, and I was just looking for a little twist on the name, or even a slogan, for under my business card- for outsiders to not think it was a put -on, is all,
Mianus polishing & cleaning service
"cars come in dirty, and exit like new"
or how about
"come to Mianus, and leave happy"

I've heard of every town within a hundred miles of me. Who are you passing these fliers out to that haven't heard of your town? If they are remotely local to you then there shouldn't be any confusion.

As far as making a play on the town's name I'd say that it would be tasteless and very unclassy. I'd go a hundred miles in the other direction to avoid a business with that type of humor. That's just me though...

The title states "need help choosing a name" but you don't acutally want to change it... anywho I don't think the name of your company is important for getting customers. Your work will or should talk for itself and get you business. Sure Mainus is a weird name but look at the popularity of Google or Ebay-- those aren't real good names either. So I guess as long as you make a name for yourself as a detailer you could save the work of switching names or take the time and go through the forms to change it all together to something new.

I would suggest using your state name instead of the city. I know yur proud of it as i know the feeling but sometimes we have to look past the pride and do what is best in the end. So i think you said you like in Conn. so try Conn. Detailing or Conn Detailer. Use your state as im sure your proud of that also

thank you, I knew there had to be someone that was able to give me a good answer, and not just reply with "pick something else, anything else". seems like some of the other posters are upset at my question, if so, why respond?

Dude,

Don't be nitpicking the responses. In your first post you said "Any suggestions would greatly help."

Too bad you don't like what these folks had to say but take these suggestions for what they are worth and get a better name for your business.

Think for yourself. If someone says it's a bad idea, come up with a better idea.
