Need an autopian in Central California, near Fresno.

I am slightly handicapped ( cut off my left hand at work, they put it back on, but I have no use), and would like to purchase a Porter Cable, however I think I am unable to use it with just one hand (I have no use of my left hand), I can pretty thouroghly wax my car (I use Zaino), however I really need someone to come over for swirl removal, and not charge an arm and a leg, I promise too thouroghly keep you fat, happy, and un-thirsty while you're here.

I have some Zaino ZPC, if you would like to use that, but if you have a favorite, it's up to you, hit me up, come by and let me know what it's gonna take to get it done.

It it a 2003 Dodge Neon, Black, with a Carbon Fiber hood (excellent quality).

Let me know!!

44 views and no one near me wants to help me out?

Someone must want to help a gimp!

If you know anyone in my area, please let me know how to contact them or you.

I'm willing to drive to you as well.

Dude,

I'd be more than willing to help were you about 3 hours closer!! Your car looks immaculate already so I know it wouldn't take much effort to keep it that way.

I know it looks great under that lighting, but, I'll get you a pic of it with the halogens on it tonight.

Wish I could help out but I’m a couple hundred miles south.

Just a thought, even though you can’t manipulate tools with your left hand can you still press on things? Or maybe press with your forearm?

You can steer a PC pretty easily with one hand. Just waxing can be done one handed too (although it’s a not as easy on vertical panels). Correcting flaws takes two hands because you need to push down on it.

Thank you soo much for taking the time to answer and even make suggestions, it really kinda got me that someone would care enough to give me different ways to do it with my handicap.

Does the PC have a trigger type power switch that I need to keep depressed while its on, or does it have a lock?

I could use my forearm for pressure, but my hand is hypersensative, so my other concern is that it would vibrate too much for me to handle, is the vibrating harsh or is it pretty smooth?

Thanks so much for your time.

You’re welcome!

The PC has a thumb switch on the back. I does lock down so you don’t have to hold it on.

Most people don’t use the handle, removing it and pressing on the head instead.

I find the vibration reasonable but it’s there and it’s continuous. I don’t think there’s any way to know for sure without trying it.

PC.

If you have an air compressor check out Pneumatic Random Orbit Poishers from Fein or Festool. You wouldn't have the bulk of the motor to deal with.

Check with you local Fein or Festool rep to demo their electric and pneumatic random orbital polishers to see what works for you.

I tried using my PC this morning without using my left hand. It was kind of awkward but easier than I expected.

I didn’t use it for very long, just did a one-step on the hood and front fenders on my truck. I tried it at speeds 3, 4, 5 & 6 (disclaimer: I use Meg’s pads and backing plate and they recommend against speeds above 5, yada, yada, yada…) and pressed on the head with my forearm hard enough for it to orbit and barely rotate. I wouldn’t want to do it for eight hours a day, five days a week but I wouldn’t mind doing a panel at a time.

bigltc’s right about pneumatics being lighter than electrics. They’re generally more powerful too. They take a lot of air. If I had room for a huge (and expensive) compressor I’d be looking at polishers from Dynabrade and National Detroit.

I gotta hand it to you for only using 1 hand. It gets somewhat tiring for even 2 hands... especially the vert panels, then you're basically leaning on the pc. (i'm not that big). I'm from san jose, so if you're ever in the area, hit me up or scheudle an appointment with me. I'm going to school at UC berkeley so it's a fairly long drive (put 1300 miles last weekend to SD). Good luck on the rest of the car! Putting WAX on the car with a pc is a great way to save your arm, you might want to try that out.

How long have you had the injory? If it is fairly recent, I wouldn't risk using the PC... I am new to it (as you can see in the links in my sig) and the vibrations were a lot for me to handle.. the first time I used it (on the expedition) the next few days I had tendinitis, and the second time my hands went numb..

so my hands are obviously hypersensitive to vibrations, and if yours are too I would be very very carefull.

WOW! You really have no idea what that means to me, thank you sooo much, I definately will not be purchasing one as the injury was fairly recent, and I have several surgeries scheduled. I will just have to find someone that can help me out, then just care for the paint.

Thanks again for taking the time to try that out for me!

OK, I just wanted to update, I really could use some help here, I just really need someone to knock down my swirls. That way I can keep the car protected without the swirls.

Right now, with my injury, I can't properly polish my car so I just protect the car but still have swirl marks:cry: .

Anyone nearby, please help a fellow autopian out!!

Couple things to note.

One, you have not posted any pics so no way to tell how bad the swirls are??

Two, you don't just "knock down" swirls, that is typically a long process anywhere between 7-10 hours depending on how bad they are.

Three, you want swirls removed for cheap??

Four, you might have better success finding a local detailer putting this in the CA section.

Sorry about your hand, hope the future surgeries will be successful and you'll get use of it back.

Good luck.

Lambo-

I posted a link to your thread over in DetailCity to see if any of those guys could help you out. Hope you don't mind. If I lived closer I would help.
