Need advice on upcoming detail

The vehicle is a black 2004 Trailblazer. I mentioned to someone that I would be doing a black car and instantly they responded with" A black vehicle is the hardest to do". They stated that black will show every imperfection. I have looked over the vehicle in good lighting and the biggest problem I can find is some pretty stuck on love bugs that have been allowed to sit for way to long. There is some mild to moderate swirls but no major water spots or deep scratches.

I plan on doing a good wash and claying but would like some advice on where to go from there. Any tips on how to get that nice shine? Thanks!

It wont be all that great without machine polishing. Sounds like your just doing a wash and wax anyways.

What does the owner expect?

I will be using my UDM. The car belongs to my in laws, all they really expect is for it to be cleaner than it is now but I really want to make it shine for them. I guess my main concern is, is it harder to make a black vehicle shine than say a red one? I'm still learning here so please pardon the newbie guestions.

Maybe you should work on your own car to get the hang of it before doing someone elses.

I've done both of my cars several times and got great results. Just never dealt with a black one. :grinno:

It's almost the opposite...you will see more dramatic improvement on Black Cars than a Silver or Beige one. If you do a good job, the Black paint will have a deep, dark shine! The difference will be in the polishing step. If you condition the paint properly, then it doesn't really matter what you put on as the LSP.

You mentioned you will be using your UDM, but what are the products you will be using with it?

Yes, like i already stated, it is easier to see imperfections on black. The process really does not change based on the color of the paint.
