I hate to bring up repeated topics, but I've already spend a few hours without ultimately finding my answer. I am not new to machine polishing, but I still consider myself a newb. I have polished several different cars with a PC (borrowed from a friend), and I've finally come around to realizing I just need to invest in one myself. My first choice is the Flex 3401.
The problem is I am concerned about the lack of smaller backing plate issue. I don't plan on using smaller backing plates very often, but I would like to be able to correct small scratches and glass polishing which would require a 4" BP (at least from what I read).
I've read some about the edge conversion and lathing a stock pad, but I found the information to be a bit vague or misleading. I'm almost tempted to buy an extra backing plate and just see how I can modify one myself to fit a 4 inch disk.
So, my question is, are there alternative ways of achieving my goals which the Flex will not allow me to do, buy the Flex anyway since the issues aren't that big of a deal, or am I better off to pick up a PC instead?
