Need a road bike

Privitize it
I got into a pretty bad crash on my bike last weekend and wrecked it as well as myself. I broke my collar bone in half, tore up my shoulder, and badly bruised my legs. I was doing 30+mph when I went down. My bikes derailer is trashed, seat's tore up, wheel wobbles, and lots of other stuff is broken. It's time to put that bike out of it's missery, 10yrs and 10k+ miles so I've got my money's worth out of it. I've never had a dedicated road bike and would like some peoples input on them. The bike I wrecked was a mountain bike with road tires so it wasn't a pure road bike. My mountain bike is too "off roady" to be on the street. I ride about 30-40mi a time so I need something light and comfortable. I've looked at a couple models and think I've decided on this- Trek Madone SL 5.2

Any bike riders here care to chime in?

BTW, I'm still detailing 1-2 cars a day. Don't ask me how I do it....

Well first off, sorry to hear about the bad injuries. I hope you heal up quick!! I have tried a few road bikes before and I dont know the models but I like the very fast smooth ride without alot of effort. from jumping on my high end schwinn to the road bikes was night and day. I dont ride bike anymore but if I did I would serioulsy buy a roadbike.

Sorry to hear about your injuries and accident. I hope you have speedy recovery. How are detailing injured? Did you high or low side the bike?

As to the road bike I do not have clue, sorry.

Eric

You can't go wrong with a Trek! I road for for months in Louisville back and forth to work. You do want a light weight bike (not a light off road bike) road bike. I had to take my light off road bike back and get a another bike because the frame was too heavy and the tires were too wide and it was hell riding up hills.. Sorry to hear about the accident. shotime there several factors in choosing a road bike . i was a cat 3 road racer. #1 what is your body weight and height ? if you want a light weight soft comfortable ride go with carbon . if you are a big guy and like to power down id say try a cannondale with a carbon fork . if money isnt a prob try a litespeed titanium . if you have rough roads try some 32 or 36 spoke wheels. fancy wheels are usually fragile and expensive. i hit a pothole with a $450.00 composite wheel and shatered it ... i wasnt happy .. also crank length is something to look at if you are tall you will like a 172.5 crank . you will climb better with these . or a 170 crank is real smooth and gives better ground clearance . another thing is go to a good shop and get the bike fitted to you . that is the most important part because you have to be comfortable on the bike .. if you need more info let me know .
