Need a quick brush up

Hey all,

I's been a while since I gave my car the TLC it needs and now that I want to jump back in the saddle, I need a quick brush up on polish techniques. I'm gonna be using Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish and will be applying by hand with an applicator. Do you guys have any tips on proper technique for this application? Most of what I've found so far has been using an orbital buffer, but I don't have one.

P.S. Would it be worth looking into one for the future?

What are you trying to acheive? The DC #2 Polish is a glaze similar to #7 Showcar Glaze, it will not remove any defects, although it will fill/hide some of them. It can be a bit of a pain to use.

Well my car isn't a daily so it isn't too bad in terms of paint condition. I'm essentially just trying to enhance the dark black wet glossy look. I'm not looking for an insane make over ya know?I'm mostly looking for some techniques advice. Like the proper way to apply by hand? How much presure? etc.

BTW, if I may ask where in NJ are you from?

I'm in Essex Cty., near Union and Morris Ctys. I've been looking for Mike Phillips' write up on #7, but I can't find it here or on the newly disorganized MOL. Perhaps someone else can point you to it or something similar if I'm not remembering correctly that it was Mike.

As Setec mentioned, the Deep Crystal Polish by hand isn't really going to remove any imperfections. Since you said it's a well maintained car, then it won't be a problem. Use a foam applicator and apply in circles (horizontal is fine as well, personal choice) with moderate pressure to clean the paint. Do that do the entire car, and seal with a good wax/sealant. Of course, for a good shine, you'll want to clay before this as well.

Whether you want an orbital buffer depends on your needs. If you have a daily driver that is scratched/marred and you want to get rid of the swirls, a orbital buffer will definitely be needed.
