Need A Product Recommendation Before Using PB Natural Finish>>>

I have a 2000 Mustang GT show car with charcoal leather interior. In the past, I have opted for a high gloss look on the interior trim. I would like to get back to a more matte finish/factory look, such as what the Poorboys Natural finish produces. My dash has been well maintained, and is very glossy. What can I use to "mute the gloss". and then finish with the Poorboys Natural Finish? I do not want to harm the finish in any way - the best word to desrcibe my goal is to mute it.

Suggestions regarding a good process to use would be appreciated. One friend suggested using a dilution of dish soap/water on a rag to clean the surfaces. IS there risk of discolouration using this process? Again, this car is my baby so I am very particular about what I use, and would greatly appreciate any suggestions Autopians may have to offer.

Thanks in advance,

~Darren

What's causing the current gloss? Is it residue from past products you've used?

How about a dilute solution of an APC to clean the material? I really like Natural Look - it's become my go-to for this type of stuff. Good luck...

Of my detailing products, I would probably try either the 303 Cleaner 30:1 or the FK1 121 10:1. I also have Woolite, but haven't used it for the car.

FWIW, when I clean the interior glass, overspray of Invisible Glass or NXT Glass on my vinyl dash takes the gloss off of the finish. Learned my lesson, so now I clean the glass first and then dress the vinyl dash and door panels afterwards. Not sure if it's safe, but that's what I've noticed. Might be worth a try if you don't have any APC handy.

Bingo. I just started to use this stuff annd LOVE it! Did 5 cars and wow, the results are great....Wish I found them years ago; aka like 15

It is years of glossy products that I have used in the past. Car is a show car, and has always been meticuously maintained. Is there any risk of discolouration with the recommended methods?

I had thought of dish soap and water to cut through the grease of past products - would this be too harsh?

If you have been using water-based dressings over the last few years, plain water and a soft MF wipedown should remove these products from the surface. Several sessions will be needed to complete the job over several days because all the protectants must leech out of the vinyl before a perfectly matte or natural appearance of the vinyl will persist.

An APC will speed up the process but will likely also remove some of the beneficial agents in the vinyl (flex and UV agents). Plain water should have a lesser effect.

If oil/silicone based products have been used, APC (dilute) may be your only recourse.

JMHO.

Same here, I even like it better than 303.
