mystery contaminant

this happened last summer and again this weekend. Is it likely they spray something on the trees or grass at work that causes tiny clear hard specks all over my paint and glass?

I spent 3 days to completely clay, polish, and souvern wax it smooth as anything... Saturday I'm at work all day and night, come out and the car has these specks all over. they kind of shimmer in sunlight. they smear if i run my finger on the paint and scratch off with my nail. It's very different than pollen with is yellow and like dust. and it is uniform all over the car and glass. like a speck every centimeter. unnoticeable until you are close up. from inside you can see them all over the windows.

I almost want to take my car cover to work. 1st time last year I thought it caused it. It's a NOAH covercraft. But I figured it didn't happen every time I used it. I must not have noticed it at night when I covered it. If it was the wax melting and forming in the tiny holes of the cover how could it get on the windows?

I want to ask work, but they will deny it. And I have to park in the last 2 rows near the grass and trees anyway.

All I can think to do is quick detail and add another coat of wax.

Buy a large bottle of rubbing alcohol @ the drug store and screw a sprayer on it and wipe everything away with a Micro Fiber towel. Alcohol melts tree sap, tree sap kills clay bars. $1 vs $25 ?

was the car parked by mulch? May be artillery fungus. They can shoot spores two stories and are kinda hard to remove if left on there a while.

*edit--didn't' read the "clear" part. not artillery spores, they are black specks

And then, when you rewax (as IPA strips wax too), I'd use something that offers more protection and durability than Souveran. Sounds like the car in question needs better protection than Souveran (which I *do* like) offers.

Hey mate,

Think I might be able to help you out...

You say you're parked near trees? Are you familiar with aphids?

Little black/green/clear insects often found on roses, etc?

What you are dealing with is their "waste".

Honeydew it's called actually.

Only recently found this out myself as I have been having the exact same problem with my cars & have a large Jacaranda tree out front.

Didn't believe it when I was told at first because there was so much of it but if you have ever seen aphids you will know they're generally in HUGE swarms.

Sure enough when I really looked there are thousands of these things in the tree!

Hope this can be of help to someone,

Brett

EDIT: Wow, my first post & only 2 years after the last post... Going well!
