My Zaino Review And Pics (56K beware)

First off I am not sure if this belongs here or not. If its not in the right place I am sorry.

Through many different products tried the last 2 summers and not really finding one that really stood out I am still on the quest to find that AWESOME shine that appeals to ME!

I decided to give Zaino a try. I had gotten Zaino for Xmas by my uncle who thought I would really like it. Well I had always said I would never use Zaino but decided to give it a whirl with lots of help from a few members here. I would mention the names of the members but I would be afraid I would miss someone so to everyone who helped me out THANKS.

I was a little reluctant to write this review and post it here do to how most Zaino topics lately turn into bashing and what not, but I have decided that I would do this and see what happens. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be like other Zaino posts.

First off I had no idea what to expect when I started using this product. I had not seen many pictures and was kind of excited to see what people were talking about.

Let me start this out with my prep that consisted of Menzerna IP with a cutting pad to a few stubborn areas and then Menzerna IP to the rest of the truck with a polishing pad and PC on 5. I then went on to Menzerna FP to the whole truck using a finishing pad. The results were a very clear and shiney surface free of scratches and swirls.

Next it was on to the Z7 wash I was a bit frusterated with the Z7 wash as it was really sudsy in the bucket but it didn’t seem to transfer to the car very well. It was almost like rubbing very slippery water across the surface but it did seem to clean pretty decent. My mix was 3 cap fulls in a gallon and half of water. Maybe I didn’t use enough or maybe that’s just the nature of Z7.

Next I went to Z6 QD. Not much to say here other than it’s a QD and a little goes along way and it seems to really add to the gloss.

Next it was time for Z5. I mixed 1 3/4ozs with 6 drops of ZFX. I used a Viking applicator and gave it a spritz of Z6 and then placed a nickel size glob in the middle of the pad and began applying it to the paint. A little goes a long way is an understatement. I do think the first layer I did use a little to much as it seemed to be a bear to remove. I removed it best I could without really applying a lot of pressure and then did a Z6 to the truck. Seemed to remove everything that was left very good. I then waited about 1 hr and did another layer of the Z5 and this time it seemed to go on better and came off a lot better. Not sure if had to do with the first layer being on the truck or if I just became better at the thin factor. Same result with the 3rd layer.

I then waited 3 days and did one layer of Z2 using ZFX. Pretty much the same as above and it really seemed to brighten up the paint.

I then waited 2 more days and applied 2 more layers of Z2 for one very bright and reflective finish

As Much as I like the looks of the truck the way it is I still am undecided if its what I am looking for. It is a truly different look and more different than I ever imagined it would be. All in all I think it’s a very good product with a unique look that I don’t think is for everyone and I am not sure its for me either. The only bad thing I have found about it so far is DUST!!! My vehicle is outside 24/7 and I work in the construction field and it seems to really attract a lot more dust than anything I have ever used before. If its at all possible I think its worse than Souveran for attracting dust.

With all this said I am not sure if this is the product for me. I am contemplating stripping it in the morning and going with KSG.

With all that said time for the pics and many, many of them.

Here is 2 pictures of it after the Menzerna Twins. I would have taken pics before these but it really didn’t look that bad and it was covered with another product.

This is a few pictures of it after 1 layer of Z5. I wanted to get pictures with 1,2,3 layers but the sun didn’t cooperate for the 2nd layer pictures so I only have 1 and 3.

This is with 1 layer of Z5

Truck looks great!!!

Give it a few days and maybe a Z7 wash. This normally decrease the surface static.

Unfortunately, you work at a construction site where dust/dirt will settle on you truck. Has this been a problem in the past?

Side-by-side SG/Z2 dust test on your cab top?? :nixweiss

Excellent write-up Tommy. :bow

Sounds like alot of work just to strip so quickly.....Your truck looks nice :xyxthumbs

Thanks. It was alot of work but at the same time it was fun to get the surface that clean and defect free. I think I might let it ride a little while and see what happens.

I never did that side by side test before but I have used the wifes car a few times to take to work and it didnt seem to be as bad as the Zaino. I think I am let it on a little while and see what happens.

You might consider just putting the SG on over the Zaino. Why put all that effort into re-polishing the car when the paint is in great shape?

I agree on the different look. It's different. I put two coats of Z2 w/ ZFX on the 200SX on top of NXT recently. I just felt like using Zaino again. Man does it look sharp! Not quite as glossy as NXT usually is, but shinier and still with good gloss. Nothing (well, #16 does) ever lasts on the 200SX, perhaps because the clear is on life-support, but I'm curious how long the beading stays on it. :)

Looks great! I agree it would be kind of a shame to strip it off after all that work. Plus, you'd be missing out on the great durability of Zaino. I'd be interested to see how long it lasts on a vehicle that is out in the sun and at a dusty contruction site all the time.

Very shiny! What is so different about the look that you would make you strip it down? I agree with the others, after putting in all that work, you might want to try topping it first to see if you can get the look you are after.

Scottwax its not so much the look as it is the dust that it attracts. I have been in contact with blkZ28conv about this issue and he suggested that after I stop layering it and a few QD's and Z7 washes that it will have more anti-static properties to it. I am giving this a try and see what happens before I make my final decision.

The look is something I can deal with its just like a very high gloss surface. It sure does turn alot of heads around here and get alot of compliments from people I dont even know so I guess the look cant be that bad.....lol

I have tryed a lot (a Lot) of products over the last 6 months. So far I am stuck on Zaino. I have applied Zaino to at least 6 customer cars and they all love their new look from a 95 Caddy,2001 black camero,2001 GMC 4x4 truck, etc. Everyone was truley happy with the results. Hang in there.

Truck looks great man! I personally think that it looks really good, but the dust is frustrating. A Z7 wash will help that though.

Yeah your dust magnet will get less over time.I've had the same problem with Zaino and it does get better.

Well its been a week now and 2 Z7 washes and 2 Z6 QD's and it does seem to be doing better than before with the dust issues. Thanks for the info guys.
