My Zaino revew (yup...Zaino!)

I never figured I would ever get Zaino. Not because I hated it or anything, but with UPP, EX, FMJ, Duragloss in my stable, I figured I would skip it.

Then I saw a picture of a silver mustang on Autopia that had a mirror like finish and the poster used Zaino. I was curious enough now to give it a go, so 40 bucks later for ZFX and Z2 I decided to block out my Saturday and give it a go.

I prepped my car by using the rotary @1400 and SSR2 on the horizontals to get at some lil tiny scratches. I then moved to the PC and SSR1 on the horizontals and the rest of the car (@ 6 with Meg's Yellow). I must admit at this point - it looks schweet. I wanted to give the Z2 my fairest shake so I followed the ssr's up with AIO applied by PC (@3 with white Edge).

Still looking great - so here we go into Z land.

I followed the instructions and put in just shy of 2 oz of Z2 in the little bottles included with ZFX and 8 drops of ZFX. ZFX is a deep blue color..very deep blue!. I shook it like a poloroid picture for 90 seconds and decided to use the applicator sent with the product. I hated that (terry cloth brick thing) and ditched it for a fresh viking applicator.

I applied layer one - went in the house and waited a half hour (caught up on my YUH GI OH..gotta love the DVR). One YuhGiOh down and I went out and got my Mullet Wax Awesome Polishing cloth and began to remove the product. Removal is a little difficult and I experienced a little bit of tough spots (maybe I put it on a lil to thick in areas?), but I got it all off. First impressions on layer one were "not as slick as I expected." To this day nothing has ever been as slick coming off as UPP. EX and FMJ are close, Duragloss too and I was expecting it from Zaino but it was not there. Maybe it's an aspect of the accelerated curing with ZFX..I dunno.

Layer two applied and back in to Yugi v.s. Marrik. Another half hour and I went back out to remove layer two. Again it was not the easiest to get off in some parts and I tried to go lighter this time.

Layer three on and off to the final battle of Yugi v.s. Marrik..Yah Yugi won!! (duh look at the name of the cartoon!)

I went back out for the final removal. Same thing, it was slightly difficult in some areas (and not the same areas as 1 and 2). I thought maybe I just used too much but of the 2 oz I prepared I had used less than half (wasted too since I cannot reuse ZFX'ed Zaino - oh well I will know better next time how much to use !! :)).

Now don't get me wrong the finish is slick, but you don't know slick till you wipe off UPP with a MF and slide across your hood :lol. I dunno, I just thought with all the awesome stories about Z that is would be slippery.

I went over the car with some FCS to clean up any residue I might have missed and pulled it outside. It really sparkled. I guess that 99% optically clear thing is true! The sun was going down so I did not get the best lighted shots but judge for yourselves.

I think it came out really well - very shiney and showing all the subtleties of the metallic paint. I didn't notice any deepening of the color like with wolfgangs. It is very reflective (as you can see) but IMHO nothing over UPP/FMJ/EX/DG. If I had to use a word to describe the results I would say 'crisp' fits the bill.

The ability to do three applications in a day is great but I am not sure it's worth the extra money. My personal opinion is that the 3 coats of Z look as good as one coat of UPP or FMJ. I may change my opinion when I get coats 4-5 and 6 on there.

So....looking at the results..what do you guys think?

Hmmm well this is what the 500th combo on there? Looks very reflective, but not something I would like. I prefer seeing the paint vs seeing a mirror. Wanna try Liquid Souveran on there? :D

Very nice job. Talk about mirror like. That's the definition. I've been tempted to get Zaino but so far I've resisted. I detail a silver metallic car. Which one do you think looks better Zaino or UPP?

rabbi - right now I would give the nod to UPP - that slick feeling when you remove it give me a woody :lol

Then you need to get Poorboy's carwash when it comes out. With that wash you'll have slick on slick. I too love the slickness of UPP on my cars but it is special on my wife's silver!:bigups

groebuck,

Sure looks good............... and I bet it will last a long time! Although, in your case, durability only needs to be about 1 week! :lmfao

groebuck,

One other thing........... If you decide "not" to use the "Z" on your paint, you might want to consider using it on your wheels! :bigups It really looks nice, and holds up well on wheels like that! Makes brake dust cleanup a breeze! :)

Just a thought!

Will do boss! I have found a product called Buffalo Milk that I use on the wheels - (it's meant for the paint) that does an awesome job -

nice review!! shook it like a poloraid picture huh?

well, i must admit that i did indeed buy some z2 and zfx to try out of my mom's car. from what ive heard about zaino, it isnt really about the "look", but more about the durability. i hear zaino sorta acts like a base, to keep your car protected, and you can top it with a pure canuba, which would probalby add some depth. i have yet to try out my Z2/ZFX :(.

You give it THAT long :lmfao

Gro,

I have been going between zaino or UPP for my next wax detail job! Yoy say UPP system is a tad better than zaino? I was going to get the 4* UPC and UPP to do my car, also get there QD to keep it shiney. Sound good??

What about going over the 4*UPP with Zaino Z2??

DO you think in durability the 4* and Zaino are about =

Hmm I dunno about the durability ;) - I never keep my car un detailed that long ;) - if you were going to combine I would do Z 2 first then top it with UPP

gro,
car looks great, i can relate to not letting the car go for long enough to test durability, its a good escape for me to go out and work on the car to get away from the room mate
:lmfao :lmfao
what happened with the dent from the mall ? is it fixed ?

I've used both, and still give the edge in durability to Zaino. I've also used UPP over Zaino, and it looks very nice and holds up very well. I just wouldn't try to mix layers. Use Zaino for the base, and then top with UPP.

To be honest, I would use Zaino on your white 4Runner, and UPP on your Silver Lexus.
