my turn at a shark thread

well guys, i just bought a shark and it's missing pieces. both brushes and the triangle attachments (number 18 and 19 in the handbook). i have to go back to lowes and get another one *sigh*. :(

i will post 50/50s and before/after when i get back, though!

haha, just joking. it looks like the machine is 10% smarter than i am and the attachments are inside the unit.

I finally got one too, kept it one day before returning it to Lowes. I dunno, it didn't have much power and steam only lasted 45 seconds - I probably got a lemon. But, since it was the last one at the store, I decided to take it as a sign - that I needed to look around a bit more.

I returned mine as well. Seemed like a well made and thought out little unit, it provided the advertised 50 mins. of steam, nice asst. of tools but had some hang ups for me. It provided very little pressure and volume and the attachments I would use for car interior cleaning (the rectangular head w/ mf bonnet and pinpoint blaster) did little for me. It just wet the uphosterly w/ no perceived cleaning action. My thoughts on all these $100 units is they're intended for light household duty and can't provide the performance of their pro cousins due to liability issues.

Glad to see I ain't the only one! I guess now we know why some steamers cost so much more. I'm going back to the tried and true chemical cleaning I was doing.

So Citizen and Junebug, do you think it wouldn't do that well on leather seats (car or house)? Like not any better than a good leather cleaner would?

okay guys, i've had it for a few days now and i'm super disappointed. i bought it cuz i sprayed some power clean 10:1 on my tan leather and it made really clean spots, but only where the APC landed. i know it's not discoloration from the APC its self, but clean spots, because i work at a tire shop and thats why the seat is so dirty. this was after a lexol scrub down. the steamer didn't touch the dirt/discoloration at all. it was about as ineffective as the lexol. also, tried it in my shower, on the glass. did nothing to the hard water stains. tried it in the fender wells, wheels/tires. again, nothing

also, i tried the steamer on automotive carpet and vyinal, did nothing. the only thing i found it effective on was reviving the nap in the carpet in my house. but EFF doing the whole house with a 2" brush attachment, lol.

basically, i've read mixed reviews about this unit on here. can i use it to bring back my leather with a different technique? do they really suck this bad? if so, what did you all say when you returned the unit to get your money back? thanks all!

oh, another thing, i used it on an old spot where my cat sprayed my carpet a loonng time ago. it steamed out the ammonia, but god that was the WORST smell EVER. i never gag, but i honestly almost threw up. :puke

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and have found it to be very useful. I've found that it works best for smaller spots and stains, where I will use the high pressure nozzle and put it very close to what I'm cleaning. I've had some dirty spots in my door jambs where I simply couldn't reach with a microfiber rag and the Shark was great for blasting out the dirt/grease in those tough areas. To me it is more of a specialty tool to rely on when traditional methods aren't working.
