First I would like to thanks all the Autopians for all their knowledge they post on these forums.
The reason I decided to make this post was because I was also one of the "New Car" people. I did a ton of reading and ran into many threads that asked the same questions." What are the best.....?". So here is my answer to "What is the best".
YOUR TIME! Period. The best car products won't do your car any good if they are just sitting on your shelf.
Some people my say well this goes without saying. I don't think people really understand the amount of time they need to invest to keep their cars looking great. I've learned this first hand. After 3 months of the initial OMG my arm is going to fall off detail. Here are some pictures of my what my car still looks like. I used all OTC products.
Steps and Products.
Do not let your dealer "detail" your car before you get it. I learn this the hard way. Swirls every where.
1. Washed MEGS Gold Class( I like duragloss Better)<-- learned about that here
2. Clayed Megs Smooth Surface
3. Polished SwirlX ( I did this by hand never again. not happening ever. I advise anyone thats wondering get a DA doesn't matter what kind just get one.)
4. LSP. I used Megs NXT. (Will be switching to something more durable BFWD or 915, Still up in the air.)
5. Tires. NXT Crazy shine, ( not too bad will try something new when I have none left.)
6. Rims. Just car wash soap. There is no need for a rim cleaner if you stay on top of them. If anyone knows anything about VW's. The break dust SUCKS bad.
7. Maintain. I wash every other week and quick detail on the others. I use Meg Ultimate quick detail ATM.
Good MF towels, well worth the investment. If your significant other has any issues get them some for around the house all questions will be answered.
Aerospace 303 great product.
So, that's my list. Bottom line is you have to put in the wrench time. If your not willing to, don't waste your money on the most expensive "best" products. I took these pictures after throwing a new coat of NXT on. I hope you enjoy I suck at taking good pictures.
