My take on the revised Edge2000 DA Adapter (with pics)

"Beep Beep"
I had the opportunity to try one of the revised Edge2000 DA adapters today. The new adapter features a shortened E2K quick connector “Loctited” with the DA thread adapter. It is one of the interim brass prototypes which is heavier than the upcoming aluminum production version.

At first glance, the revised adapter is noticeably more compact than the original version.

To assess the vibrations levels, I first refreshed my memory by using the original E2K DA assembly with the longer adapter. I should mention that my PC is a 7336SP model with a 6” counterweight. This setup worked well up to speed 4.5. Beyond that, I felt that vibration levels increased to a rather harsh level. As a result, I preferred to revert back to my Velcro backed assemblies for heavier polishing tasks at speeds 5 and above.

Next, I switched to the revised E2K adapter and repeated my actions. I was happy to find that the harsh vibration levels were significantly reduced. Speeds all the way up to 5.5 were very smooth. At speed 6, there is a jump in vibration levels but no more so than one experiences with a Velcro backed system.

For a baseline comparison, I also tried a couple Velcro assemblies. With a 6” backing plate and 7.5” Lake Country Curved Edge pad, vibration levels were comparable at all speeds. With a 6” pad, vibration was once again similar except at speeds 5.5 and higher. It that case, the 6” Velcro pad system was just slightly smoother.

Overall, the new shortened adapter has made the Edge2000 DA system much more manageable at higher PC speeds. The upcoming production version’s aluminum construction should render the system even more user friendly. I’m eagerly looking forward to its introduction. Now, if I could just get the pads in a beveled edge design……… ;)

Marj,

Great review................................... but you are starting to scare me! :lmfao

Thank you Marj !!!
I can't wait to trade in one or two of my adapters for the new ones.

If you are able to try an Aluminum one in the next couple weeks, please report back on that as well :cool

Dang that much improvement! I need to figure out the new DA pads I got. Another PAC purchase in a month. Sigh.

awd330 , very nice review indeed , I can't wait to get the aluminum unit the system should be 100% with it.

Thanks Marj ... I just recieved one of the original ones but I guess I should have waited!
Thanks again for sharing :)
You will be able to trade in your original E2K DA adapter for one of the revised versions. Aaron said he would post a thread when the new models became available.

I think I'm a member of PAC's frequent buyer club too! :D

I'm with Boss. :wait

The quickie connect looks great and those E2K pads sure look spiffy but I don't have any complaints using the Edge Classic, velcro pads. If they do away with the velcro pads I guess thats when I'll get one of those newfangled thingamjigs :) .

The main reason I decided to swith over was for more flexibility between the PC and rotary ... with out messing around trying to center pads each time and I have had some problems with velcro backing plates failing (not the Edge plates)

As Marj so kindly pointed out, we would like to announce and will do so in a new post when they are in stock, that we will be accepting any Edge2000 DA adapters in return for replacement short DA adapters that will be pre-loctite from the factory. If you purchased the adapter just ship it back to us and we will send the new one out next day no charge. Please wait to do this until we have the new adapters in stock in about a month.

Thanks,

I should probably qualify my original statement.....if I were using the PC and rotary everyday, the adapter makes plenty of sense. Since I'm doing 75% of my personal vehicle detailing by hand it's not that big an issue with me anymore.

Lucky for me I just got a short adapter in the mail too. What a great surprise...Thanks Aaron and Saul!!!!!:beer :headbang

I'm going to try it this weekend on my worst car yet to detail for my new business. It's like an 89' Taurus. Yuk. I'll make a seperate post on that after I work on it on Sunday.

Same here! I use the PC a few of times a year, and that's about it. I have tried it a couple times applying/removing waxes/sealants, just to get more use out of it.

However, I can certainly see the advantage of the quick disconnect if you use the PC frequently, or you are detailing for a living.

In the meantime, I working on............... how to spell " newfangled thingamjigs"! :lmfao
