My Portable Detailing Kit

I've posted this long ago but thought it was time to share the idea again. :) As a dedicated detailing loony, I feel compelled to have a detailing kit in every car so I can take care of emergencies like bird droppings, bug attacks and general boredom like when I wait in the parking lot while my wife grocery shops. :eek1:

First I found a place in each car where I could discreetly hide a pack or case which would hold the detailing kit. (You see, I am an anal-retentive neat freak too, and don't just want something rolling around my trunk or taking up real space.) Every case in every car is different in shape. I found a flat one for one car that slips up in an access panel inside the trunk, another has a square shape to fit a pocket bin, another is a long rectangular shape, etc. I found each of these packs at stores that carry travel supplies and suitcases. All of my packs are some sort of mens or womens shaving kit bag or make up bag. These come with lots of compartments, pockets, etc. And they are cheap! None of my kits cost over $10.

Next, I shopped online to get small plastic bottles to hold my liquid detailing supplies. You can get similar bottles at camping stores and other specialty container and storage stores, but the online-purchased bottles cost just pennies and you have endless choices for size, shape and style. You can get clear, colored, soft, hard, etc. And you can choose any kind of lid, seal, or sprayer.

I made labels for all my bottles simply by printing out my own design created on my computer. I printed them on regular paper and attached the labels with clear packing tape. The tape covers the entire label making it durable and waterproof. Looks pretty professional, too. My labels are all color coded so I can easily grab what I need, no matter the brand I have put inside. And even my wife understands in and uses it!

I also purchased a series of round flat metal containers which hold various pastes, such as chrome polish or waxes. These tins seal well and take up very little space.

I have several cars and each is a rolling test bed for different products I use. Each car has a custom assembly of detailing products ready to go.

All my kits contain at least:

QD

Shampoo

Glass Cleaner

Leather Care

Vinyl Treatment

Tire Treatment

Sealant and/or Wax

Metal Polish

Brush

Microfiber Towels

Applicators

I just wanted to remind folks that you can get creative, cheaply, and make a very user-friendly and organized kit to take care of almost any detailing need. And it stays in the car always! This works for me. What works for you?

Here are a couple pics of one of my kits:

Brad has got me beat in the A-R department when it comes to professional labels for his products :o. I have a very similar size pouch for the back seat armrest in my A4. I figure it’s been 8 years, never used the First Aid Kit, so I pretty much use that for my emergency stash of products . I always have my main travel detailing kit with me no matter what car I’m using. I’ve had it for years and I believe I’ve left my American Express card home more often than it ;) :chuckle: It’s even designer. :)

I *love* two ounce bottles! Not only do I have them in my detailing kit, I use them very often while detailing. They can’t be beat for convenience by slipping them in your pocket and having multiple polishes on your person while detailing. They also train you not to go overkill on product usage.

Here in Florida, it can feel hotter than Hades, so for the sake of products not spoiling , those I tend to use regularly, I keep them in a mini fridge :D in my garage. The main bottles stay nice in my laundry room. One can say I only apply refrigerated wax :D

Thanks! LOL!

It's so funny because I learned not to talk about that to some people who are in health care I know. I get looks from them that are kind of a cross between annoyance, disbelief, and "he's really nuts". I say to them, I really like the nylon bag the bandages came in though! :chuckle:

I carry all my stuff in the car. I have a duffle bag full of stuff, Zaino, Glass cleaner, conditioners, tire shine, EVERYTHING BUT CAR WASH SOAP&BUCKET!

Let's not forget the 14x12 storage bin for my MF towes and applicators.

I love using a small sprayer for Z8. The large sprayer doesn't work well unless you do a full squeeze of the trigger.

My Z16 bottle has a sprayer on it, too.

Nice travel kits!

Randy

I also get them online directly from a distributor. Very cheap and tons of styles available. A Google search will reveal many suppliers.

Sounds like me LOL.

What code do you use for the products? ie a blue label would be product X or is more along the lines of blue means glass cleaning products?

By category of use. Blue = Glass. Black = Tires. Brown = Leather. And so on. I have several kits with different brands used so this just reduces the amount of reading. My wife loves it! :)
