My new toy...

Yep, I made the plunge and bought a garage. Thankfully it came with an attached living quarters! I'm so happy to have the house hunting finished with. It was about the least pleasant thing I have ever done. I'm psyched to move in but unfortunately we don't close until May 30 - about 80 days from now!

Here she is in all her glory. BTW, none of that stuff is mine. These pics were taken during the initial walk through.

Here's an outside shot of the garage and the attached house. Unfortunately it's only a 2 car garage. The next door neighbor has a 3 car garage that I'd like for myself!

Wow. really nice digs, dude. I'm jealous. Looks like a good garage. The living quarters don't look too shabby either. :xyxthumbs

Thanks Jman. Reasonable house prices and low mortgage rates have afforded me this home. Fortunately house prices aren't too inflated where I live - about 60 miles outside of Philly.

When we first looked at the house I stood in the garage for a few minutes invisioning what I could do to it. The clutter was driving me nuts! The small storage area is a pretty neat feature. And luckily the owners put a storage shed in the backyard, so I don't have to store any lawn care equipment in the garage!

We just closed on our garage with attached house today. We get possessionon Friday afternoon. I'll post pictures when I take them this weekend. I've been planning for a while now all of my garage mods. A local trade school is offering night classes in basic carpentry and household wiring, so I'll be taking those this spring. By the end of summer, I'll have the whole thing wired up, insulated and drywalled.

I plan on having sufficient power outlets in the garage along with the capability for 220 volt power. I will also have a network connection and a cable outlet. The walls will get fiberglass insulaiton and a plastic vapor barrier. This will be covered up by a layer of drywall. The ceiling will get eighteen inches of cellulose insulation since I won't be using it for storage. I will have a work bench on the front (pending space) or to the side. I am installing a water line for a hose and a utility sink with hot and cold water.

I also plan on installing a trench drain near the garage door (the pitch of the floor leads there), so I can wash in the garage. I haven't explored heating options yet, but am hoping for something electric since we have cheap electric out here. Since I now have central air, my window unit will cool the garage in the hot summer days.

Rental rates for Rochester area Autopians will be very reasonable!

Wow - that's a great lookin place!

It kills me, however, that people don't take care of stuff, or at the very least try to make it look like they care for stuff.

I couldn't imagine trying to sell my house with it looking like that - I mean, comeon! the guy even left a few tool box drawers open... :D

I think I'm going to try and sell my car, but before I do that, I'm going to go "mudding" with it, let the dogs live in it for a few weeks, and gather up every piece of trash alongside the road and store it in my backseat. That should help bring top dollar, don'tcha think? :D

Congrats again, and I can't wait to see pics of it after you get your hands on it (and that guys crap out of there).

Geeky: Ironically, that was the only room in the house that was messy! The rest of the house was extremely clean. I didn't seen a single spot on a carpet or any marks on the walls throughout the house. Most people probably don't expect people to critique the garage, go figure! But I see what you're saying, why not organize just a LITTLE bit before a walkthrough?

Scott: I like the plans for your garage. I definitely want a cable connection in the garage. I also like the idea of the trench drain, hopefully the garage pitches towards the door. I'm gonna have to put in some more outlets in the walls because I don't remember seeing very many.

Congradulations on the new garage! :up and house :p

What youre planning on doing to it sounds aweseome too, I cant wait to see the finished product!

Hey I have that toolbox! He sure does a good job of making it look like crap though. :nono heh

Hey, that's a beautiful home! And the garage is a nice setup. I can see it now. The raised section is nicely tiled with a work bench and overhead cabinets on one side. The main garage floor is painted, of course, and is completely free of clutter so the cars have plenty of room for detailing and walking around. Look at all the mess the old owners had. Such priorities.:nono

Congrats!:xyxthumbs

Congrats on the house, I mean garage, man!!

Is that a few bottles of detailing products I see on the top shelf just to the right of the door???

Good freakin' luck moving my friend....NIGHTMARE

:angry

Congratulations on the new garage with attached house! If you think that garage is messy, you don't want to see mine. :D

Ahh... the mystery has been solved... I'm pretty sure that the caretaker of the house (whether it's the wife or not) has been asked to stay out of the garage or maybe the husband lives there hehe...

Nice looking place... Kinda like The Sims... :D

Good call on the workbench/cabinets in the raised area! That's exactly what I envisioned there. Maybe a tv hanging from the ceiling beams. An old PC hookup will also have to be squeezed in there.

I think the bottles are just garden/lawn chemicals.

This is my first house so I don't have tons of stuff to move, no furniture other than 2 bedroom sets. All appliances and furniture will be delivered by the store that I buy them from. And I'll be on my honeymoon soon after I close on the house so any delay in those delivery items won't be a big deal. After 28 years of living in the house I grew up in I have stuff scattered all throughout the house. Getting all of that stuff organized will be the nightmare! The house is less than 5 minutes from where I currently live, so if I forget to pack things I won't have a problem getting them.
