My new (to me) Nissan Pathfinder

I drove over 3 hours on Saturday morning to pick this 2005 Nissan Pathfinder up. Thanks again tropicsteve for checking it out for me before making the trip!

While the bike life has its merits, an SUV like this will be much more practical for me and will allow me to start detailing again. I`ve got plans to build the cargo area into a mobile detailing area with compartments for my steamer/pressure washer/extractor/tools etc.

The 3.2 hour drive back home was a good 1st test for this vehicle and it passed with flying colors.

The next morning, I noticed the front sections of the SUV were covered in bug remains.

Of course the dealership told me they had their best guy give it a full detail...but we all know how that goes. I told them that sounded swell and started to make a mental checklist of the products I would need when I got home.

It`s hard to see in this pic, but I used Optimum Ferrex on the entire hood. From the looks of it, someone with short arms clayed the front half of the hood but couldn`t reach to the top. Only half of the hood showed contamination. Literally a half-assed job.

I`m a fan of clean engines too and this one needed some love.

I`ll post more detailed pics later :)

The dealership I picked it up from glazed the interior with a shiny, smelly dressing that I wanted to remove asap. I couldn`t wait to get home to steam clean the interior panels. The smell alone was giving me a headache.

No surprise either that all of the trim needs a lot of work.

I finished the quick detail with a coat of Gyeon Wet Coat. It was too hot to try anything else.

On the bright side, I`m pretty sure I burned enough calories to make up for those cheesy tots and milkshake which will make room for round 2! :)

Nope, but do you recommend? I know the trim on this thing is going to need multiple applications so I might as well try out a few on the way.

Have not used it.

I would probably try Solution Finish. Just apply and let bake in the sun for a couple days. Then put WETS on top to try to lock it in

Congrats on your new ride Ray!! When are you going to fully detail it? What are your plans for the detail? How did the Gyeon Wet Coat do?

What steamer do you have?

Product guess on the trim: Sonax Polymer Netshield.

Thanks I love it. I`ve got a Vapamore MR-100 and it works great for me. I actually ended up steam cleaning my kitchen yesterday! It worked great on everything, especially the fridge. The door handle was gross. I feel much better now that I know everything is sanitized.

Hopefully this weekend I`ll give it a full polish and coating.

Gyeon Wet Coat worked great even in the hot sun. Super easy to apply but I used about half a bottle on this big SUV. They should sell that stuff in gallons. Very slick.

congratulations on the new ride, looks very nice and will be perfect for mobile detailing efficiently. I would definitely try Solution Finish on that trim.

welcome to the Nissan family!

I`m not sure what you used but I`d be interested in seeing how well it holds up over a week or so- because my Frontier has that exact same sad faded cowl piece and I really don`t want to have to pull it off and rattle can it

Congrats. Have you decided which coating you are going to use on it? GTechniq C4 is another option for the trim.

Nice looking SUV. That 2005 body style has aged very well. Once you get it to your standards must people with think it`s One or two years old. Silver, the ultimate easy to keep clean color:)

If you were in WI, I`d recommend Weathertechs. Almost a necessity here in winter. Nice when rainy too.

Optimum Gloss Coat and thanks I forgot about C4. I know I have a bottle of it somewhere...

Thanks and I agree. I`m looking forward to coating it so I never have to touch it again. Weathertech Floorliners, Cargo liner and Window Deflectors are on their way.

Plus I`d love to get something like this for the next time I go camping:
