I just finished a detail of my hood using MF towels from Griots and Pakshak. I have been using Griots for some time and tried the Pakshak towels based on the advice of several on this board. Man what a difference. First the obvious; the Griots towels cost $5.66 each at 15.5 X 15.5, the Pakshak towels were $5.40 each for 3 - 24 inch and 2 - 16’s (without Autopian discount). Close enough to really not matter although Pakshak does give a bit more square inches of towel.
The quality of the two looks to be the same new; we will see what happens down the road with durability. The differences observed include: Griots has tags sewn into the towels, not a smart place for advertising in my opinion. Although most of the tag is easy to remove with what seems to be a serrated edge made for removal there is still ¼ inch of the tag sewn into the towel. Removing it caused the towel to start to fray. Pakshak has no tags. The Griots towels are thinner, not as plush. The difference noticed was water absorption. The Pakshak towels absorbed more water quicker with less streaking; something to do with the Pakshak towels being 70/30 and Griots being 80/20? Using the two for removing Griots Best of Show wax was a tie, both worked well and removed the wax easily which sat on the paint for 45 minutes in a 100+ degree garage, the wax being almost like a powder coming off. One last comment, both towels have a different texture on each side, one being much lower in “depthâ€ than the other. The shallow side is the same on both, but again Pakshak wins for the depth or plushness.
All in all, Pakshak gets my vote.
