My latest - Orange WRX, White WRX and an amazing begining of my new Daily Driver

I'm not gonna post all the pics, just links to them on my site.

The orange WRX belongs to a friend from NASIOC and I've detailed it 2 times last year. It's been in the shop for approx 13 months getting built up. Something like 450-500 WHP , should be good for a mid to low 11 sec pass.

The car had a years worth or dirt and crap on it.

Car got washed, clayed, washed, DACP'ed and sealed with 4 Star for protection.

Next was a White 02 Wagon.

Car got same as above, wash, clay, wash, DACP and 4 Star.

It had some moderate swirling going on along with some deep down dirt. ON most cars, you wash and clay it and it looks like the car is clean, right? Not on white cars. Washed and clayed, the car appreared clean from a few feet, but when I started buffing, it was immediately apparent that the paint hadn't been really cleaned in a long while. It was a dungy grey color. This goes to show that even thou you wash and wax your car, it still needs a good deep cleaning once a year.

The camera had a hard time capturing this color difference in the white paint though . . .

Now onto the amazing detail (IMHO)

I bought a new daily driver, a 91 Integra GS. It was a great price (like say $650ish) with fairly low miles for the age (125K) and I immedietly saw the potential in it.

I started the process of getting my new integra from Pinkish red to red.

The car was faded bad. . .really bad. Not a biggie for me though, as I've had a pretty steady client base of detailing on the side for these last 2 or 3 years.

So today, I started on revitalizing the car, starting with half the hood. Now my MR2 was faded badly when I got her, so I've have some experience with bringing faded single stage red paint back to life, so I knew what I needed to do and in what order, for the most part.

Here's what I did:

Washed the hood with Quick and Easy wash (in a 3 gallon bug sprayer)

dried with a Microfiber towel

I then taped half of the hood with masking tape

Fist came out the Klasse All In One cleaner with a white pad and a PC 7424

Then another pass of teh AIO

6.jpg

Next came a pass w of MEguiars Dual Action Cleaner and Polish with a Meguiars Cutting Pad

7.jpg

Then another pass with the DACP

9.jpg

Next came Meguiars #7 Glaze with a yellow Meguairs Polishing Pad

then another pass with the #7

Finally I topped her with Meguiars Gold Class wax.

That was all I really had time for tonight. Well, actually, after that, the tape left some residue, so I got that off with WD40 and re QEW'd the hood. Than I also did the pass front quarter panel with the same process. I also degreased the engine and vacumed out the car and shampooed the floormats.

I'll do the rest of the car's exterior slowly over the next few days. . .I'll post more pics when the car is done!

Thanks about it!

Thanks for looking!

amazing job!! my dads surburban which just sits outside (no one drives it) is starting to fade really bad on the hood, i want to try and get a buffer and that can be my practice car :)

I would love to pick up a 2nd gen Integra as a "daily driver." You got a killer deal; I'd have jumped at the offer as well. Most people would freak out over paint fade that bad. Somehow you just have to look at the car differently, as what it has the *potential* to look like. Excellent job and I'm anxious to see pics of the entire finished product!

Edit: BTW, turn your emblem right-side-up! :)

Im a bit curious as to your methods..........I would have thought to use the DACP before the AIO. Wouldnt the DACP simply remove the AIO?

I sure miss my G2 GS! I had a '90, Flint Black Metallic in color. FBM has this wonderful bronze flake in it that just glows when prepped nicely. If I could find a deal like that I'd pick it up in a minute and drop a B18C5 in it!:D

AIO is great for removing oxidation so i presume used it first then polished out the paint below all the fade.

Yup,

the AIO was used for the oxidation cutting power, then I used the DACP to cut into the paint a bit more (I didn't want to go straight to the Diamond Cut, but I think I will eventually to really get some depth out of the paint)

I noticed the emblem was upside down. . .

4cruzin - my GF when she saw the car didn't think the car could be salvaged, but I knew better. I only really drove it home 2 nights ago, as I'm trying to sell my current DD, a 95 Accord, but she was a blast on the highway compared to the accord. By next week I should have her all done and pics posted. . .

Thanks all for you comments.

wow, you seem to like faded red paint. :LOLOL awesome transformation in bringing the red back to life.

hey, i'm of the school of thought that sports cars should be red. . .

It rained a little bit today, and when I came home for lunch today and I was kinda surprised to see the rain bead like this.

Question for you guys.

I posted these pics on a 2nd Gen Integra site (that I just joined) and a few guys there were asking me why I didn't clay it before starting. I felt it was too ozidated to need the clay. Should I have done that before starting? I've still got the rest of the car to do, so is it something that I should thing about doing before starting the complete restoration?

If you were to clay first you would have just disposed of a good clay bar. You did it right by cleaning the paint first.:)

That's what I thought.

I figured with the AIO, DACP, #7 and Gold Class Wax, any dirt would be gone.

After I get the car good and deoxidized, I might Dawn her, then clay then DACP her, or something.

Wow! Really great restoration job. I think I would feel weird driving that car around though with a half polished hood. I imagine you get some funny looks.

Actually, since I can't afford 3 cars for just me, I'm not driving this thing yet. I'm selling my 95 accord daily driver, and once it sells, I'm transfering the plates to this teg (IL state law about plates going with the driver, not the car)
