I had been looking for a while for a replacement for our 2005 Audi S4. It was a really sweet ride, in fact, I bought it new and kept it 10 years- a record for me and daily drivers! I looked at current S4's and S5's but they were just too pricey and I can't get over how large these cars have gotten! I liked the idea of an A3 but just felt that it was too much of a downmarket interior, especially comparing it to our S4. And the look was a bit stodgy for me.
I actually very, very close to buying a VW Golf GTI. I have had GTI's many moons ago and could get over the lack badge prestige given the utility of a hatchback. The latest GTI is easily the best one yet and I liked pretty much everything about it. I was actually waiting until the a couple of options became available, they were delayed in production, and then I would pull the trigger. I had my order all set and ready to go. I was just waiting.
Then one day my wife and I were in a shopping mall with my Carrera and I made a point to park far, far away around the corner where nobody else parked. (We all do that, right?
) When we returned to the car I see from a distance that some jerk has parked right next to me. $%#* As I approached I see he isn't doing me any harm. In fact, it looks like a cool car. I finally get up to it and see it's a BMW I don't immediately recognize. I read the rear badge and see its a M235i. Then the lightbulb goes off in my head..."Ahh, I remember seeing some articles about this car." The fact is, I likely ignored articles about BMW's in general because for whatever reason, they have been off my radar for a long while. None of them really struck any hot buttons for me. (Well, any I could afford, anyway.)
But this one looked just right. Perfect size. Aggressive looks. I'm a sucker for coupes. My wife and I literally drove straight to the local dealership. Within the first 10 minutes of the test drive I knew this was it! This car is awesome. It is exceptionally fast and handles extremely well. It really feels light on its feet, something so many cars we have driven, didn't. For the first time in my life I bought a car right off the lot.
I added a few carbon fiber goodies, because, well, you understand.
And had the entire front end covered in Xpel film. No more mods planned. I'm happy. For now.
