My first "system"...

Hey guys,

Well I am in the process of building my first entry level system. I don't need anything that is going to win a competition or anything, just looking for something to suit my needs. I ended up purchasing this sub enclosure http://www.cardomain.com/item/ABNABP10T and now I am in need of an Amp but I have no idea what I need to be looking for. I know it has to do with RMS and what not but I can't figure all that out. I was wondering if someone could recommend an amp to run these subs?

Here are the specs:

* Dual 10" Molded, Textured Injection Poly Cone

* 50 oz Strontium Magnets

* 2" 4-Layer ASV Voice Coil

* Power Handling: 600W RMS

* Sensitivity: 101 dB

* Frequency Response: 30-150 Hz

* Impedance: Dual 4-Ohm (two 4-ohm terminals can be wired together for a single 2-ohm load)

I'd like to keep the cost of the amp under $200 if possible, but if I need to spend more then just let me know!

Thanks for the help

Look at woofersetc.com for hi-phonics or pheonix gold amps. you will need something that is stable at 2-ohms so the amp wont overheat. I can pick you out a specific amp that will work for under $200 tomorrow. The model # may be R8:0.1 Honestly, if you are thinking about any Sound Quality, Audiobahn should be out of your list. They are mostly for getting silly loud off a small amount of power, but they arent SQ queens. I recommend Elemental Designs 13kv.2 in a ported enclosure tuned to 32hz or TC-sounds TC-1000 ported to 35hz. They would both blow the a-bahns out of the water in terms of SQ and SPL.

Just a suggestion Josh, not tryin to rag on your stuff. I just know that Audiobahn isnt really respected in car audio. You can get more for less money with other brands.

Whatever you do, post some pics and let us know how it goes.

I went with a 12" 13kv.2

As a swap for a detail I also have a pair of 12" Memphis subs sitting here. Will be installing the ED this week :)

Good sub choice. Sounds like you're getting good advice from the folks here as well. What are you doing for an amp? The advice on the JL Audio slash series is nice, but pretty pricey considering you wanted to stay around $200.

You should be able to pic up a decent Hifonics or similar amp for not much more than that. Won't win you any contests, but should sound pretty nice. You didn't mention what head unit you have, or what the other speakers you have are.

A "system" is a collection of parts, not just the sub! :) And of course saying that, I've got an Adire Brahma 12 sitting in the closet I bought 3 years ago and still haven't installed. :)

Ok, well anything that is tucked away in a closet can be sent to me!!!!!! Specially the A/D/S stuff, I desperatly want a ADS front stage.

Alright well I thought I better update this thread with what my "system" consists of so I don't get nagged on for even mentioning Dual to begin with :)

Elemental Designs 13kv.2 12" Sub

Phoenix Gold R8.0;1 - Phoenix Gold Octane R 1 Ch 800 Watt Amp

1 Farad Audiobahn Capacitor

CDT Audio CL-60 - CDT Audio Classic Series 6.5" 2 Way CONVERTIBLE Speaker system

R4.0;2 - Phoenix Gold Octane R 2 Ch 400 Watt Amp (For some reason it is no longer listed on the site)

26 Square Feet of Elemental Designs Sound Deadening

Single 12" sub box rated at .83 cubic feet of air space

Should all be installed by this weekend so will have pics up as soon as we finish! A big thanks to Brandon1 for all his help with picking out the pieces of my system and instructions along the way!

Ya put up the wrong link for the front stage amp. You put up a mono amp, but you supposedly bought a 2ch 400w PG amp.

Ha ha.

Upgrading your electrical system is a good idea too. Run an extra charging cable from the alternator. Add a bigger grounding cable. Remember that what goes out must come in. So if you are running a 4 guage power wire to your amps, then you also need to upgrade your batteries ground cable with a 4 gauge. Here's mine.

Josh, this is the "BIG 3" upgrade I was telling you about, eliminates the need for a cap.

Nice install PB.:dance

Well, given what you posted, if the installers don't suck, you should have a very nice sounding car. Congrats!

Thank you! My friend is actually installing it for me..he is a "system guru" when it comes to installs. And if the install does suck...looks like I have one less friend :bat

Few last minute questions guys...We are installing the sub and amp tomorrow afternoon. I have installed Elemental Designs sound deadening on all 4 doors and behind my license plate.

I need to still pick up a line out adapter tomorrow to hold me over until I get a new head unit..but I was wondering should I probably upgrade my battery as well when I get the chance?

I found something laying around that is absolutely perfect for mounting my amps/capacitor/fuse box so I will take pictures tomorrow after we get everything installed! :bounce

Wish me luck on setting the amp correctly :)
