My First Review - Zaino Z2Pro and Z8

I have been reading lately that Zanio was producting a deep wet shine with the introduction of Z2Pro and Z8 so my curiosity got the best of me and I order the ZKIT-1 and the Z8. My favorite product is AIO topped with Pinnacle Souverän and my favorite sealant is Wolfgang. The only other boutique product I have used is 4* UPP but have used NTX along with a lot of the other across the counter products. I have been into old Corvettes, muscle cars and street rods for about 35 years now so I have done my share of polishing and waxing but I will have to say I have learned a lot over the last year reading these forums. I first used a sample of the old Z2 and was not impressed but didnâ€â„¢t spend much time in prep either, so this time we are going overboard in the prep department.

Our test car is a 1965 Milano Maroon Corvette with some minor swirls and some minor paint damage with the soft top contacts the paint and a few nicks and dings. The paint is B/C and was done about 12 to 15 years ago and I would call it an average job.

The First Day:

Going by Zanio directions we first washed with Dawn but after the Wolfgang was still beading so we went to an acohol rub just to make sure we had a clean surface. Then used our Sonüs clay and Sonüs Clay lubricant and clayed the entire car. Then we took our PC and some Sonüs Enhance (SFX-3) with a Sonüs orange pad on 4.5 and hit the deck were the soft-top contact the paint. Took about 4 pass to remove the majority of the scratches but did dull the finish. I know itâ€â„¢s hard to damage the paint with PC but when I saw how dull the paint was I backed off and decided to move on. Next I took Sonüs Enhance (SFX-2) and Sonüs green pad and went over the entire car at least twice and some areas like the hood 3 and 4 times. It took about 6 applications over the rear deck to get rid of the dull finish cause by using Sonüs Enhance (SFX-3). End of First day and about 7 hours of work.

The Second Day

Got the car out in the sun and verified that 99% of swirls were gone. Got the PC out and the Sonüs Enhance (SFX-1) Finial Finish and the blue on 5.5 and did the finial polishing again at least twice and some areas even more. By the end of the day this was one shiny finish and I couldnâ€â„¢t help but believe that Sonüs polishes didnâ€â„¢t leave some fillers or oil on the surface. Did a quick alcohol rub just to make sure I had a clean surface. End of second day and about 4 hours of work.

The Third Day.

Went out the to garage and admire the work from the last two days and threw a quick coat of Crystal Mist on my street rod and went to the cruise in and took the night off.

The Forth Day (temperature about 78 degrees and low humidity)

I had already decided that I would do 3 coats of Z5 and ZFX. I filled the small bottle ½ full and added 5 drops of ZFX and spent the next 90 seconds of my life shaking the bottle. I used the applicator provided by Zanio and used about 2/3 of oz for the first coat â€â€œ I donâ€â„¢t see how any can use ¼ oz to do a car unless itâ€â„¢s a Mini Cooper. Waited 30 minutes and used a MF towel and it came off really easy. Used the Z6 spray â€â€œ this stuff is really easy to use. Mixed up about another oz of Z5 and 5 more drops of ZFX and put on a second coat of Z5 again using maybe a little less than 2/3 of oz for this coat. I did notice that he second coat was a little harder to remove then the first coat. Then another coat of Z6. Since I had little more trouble removing the Z5 I decided to wait a couple of hours before applying the third coat of Z5. Later in the afternoon I applied the third coat of Z5 using about 2/3 of oz. Removal was about the same as the second coat and not as easy as the first coat. On to the Z6 and the end of the day. I had probably ¼ oz left in the bottom of the bottle â€â€œ now I have shinny riding lawn tractor. I have heard problems getting the bottle clean but I used about ¼ oz of dawn and ¼ oz hot water shook and rinsed and the bottle came clean. Spent about 1 hour a coat when you figure put on, taking off then the Z6 so about 3 hours plus another 1 ½ wait time so about 4 ½ hours or so.

Fifth Day again about 75 degrees and low humidity)

Now onto Z2Pro so I mixed up another 1 oz with 5 drops of ZFX and shook for the required 90 seconds. Put a coat of Z2Pro over the 3 coats of Z5 and again used about 2/3 of an oz of product. Waited about 30 minutes and removal was easier than the last coat of Z5. Went onto a coat of Z8 which I like even better than the Z6 â€â€œ this stuff is really easy on easy off. Had some left so used the rest on the hood and part of the front fenders â€â€œ removed it and used the Z8 again. Called it quits for the day. About 1 ½ hours.

Sixth Day (about 70 degrees with a little higher humidity)

Put on 2 more coats of Z2Pro with ZFX using Z8 in between each coat. These coats come easy with very little effort. Took about 2 ½ hours with wait time between coats.

And on the Seventh day I rested and waited for the cross linking process to complete.

This is the way I would rate these â€â€œ remember this is the way I see it and your results could be different. Pictures and review and pictures was done on the 10th day to allow for curing process.

Scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the best.

Reflectivity:

4* UUP = 9

Wolfgang = 6

Z5 w/ZFX Alone = 6

Z6Pro W/ZFX = 10

Pinnacle Souverän = 7

Shine

4* UUP = 9

Wolfgang = 6

Z5 Alone = 6

Z6Pro W/ZFX = 10

Pinnacle Souverän = 7

Depth

4* UUP = 7

Wolfgang = 8

Z5 Alone = 6

Z6Pro W/ZF = 7

Pinnacle Souverän = 10

Wetness

4* UUP = 7

Wolfgang = 9

Z5 Alone = 6

Z6Pro W/ZFX = 7

Pinnacle Souverän = 10

Iâ€â„¢m just not seeing the depth, wetness and warmth of Pinnacle Souverän in the Z system but the shine and reflective properties is outstanding and exceeds that of Pinnacle. After all this I still comes down to what you like and what your eye perceives. I would be proud to drive it to any car show or cruise in and will probably use it on my other 58 Corvette also. My street rod will stay with AIO and Pinnacle Souverän.

The car looks great, and very objective evaluations. I don't think anyone could complain about your paint preparation process.

By the way, how easy do you consider the application / removal of the LSP (z2 pro) is without considering the additional headaches of the ZFX mix preparation, wash container of the mix and long hazing time?

Nice vette and a very good review Dennis :xyxthumbs

Be sure to post some pics of that blue '58 when you get done!

Phenomenal write up !!! Spending days on a car....now THAT'S DETAILING ! :bow:bow:bow

Pictures are awesome and show your hard work. Thanks for taking the time to write it up. :xyxthumbs

Great review. Try applying Zaino by PC sometime, you would be shocked at how little you use. I can get three coats on our Nissan Maxima with less than 1.5 ozs. Just make sure that you mist the PC pad with Z6 or Z8 to help it spread.

What pads & PC speed do you use? I'm interested in the process and plan on Zing the car this weekend...

I think the applications is harder than most other sealants just because you concentrating on putting it on so thin - Wolfgang or 4* UUP I donâ€â„¢t worry about getting on really thin. Removal is probably easier than Wolfgang or 4* UUP because of the really thin application. The second and third coat of Z5 W/ZFX was the hardest to remove. By know means is applying nor removal overly difficult. My applications was all done by hand.

The car looks fantastic. :xyxthumbs

Did I add this correctly 19.5 hours of work over the course of six days ?

:eek:

One could read this as a very detailed individual informative post or it could be the ultimate Zaino complex time consuming system scare you to death post.

First of all, great looking car ! I am sure pictures do not do it complete justice ! Your review is great and very detailed ... I am really impressed with your process. Way to go Dennis!

I have bought cheap, disposable pastic bottles because I am lazy.

What I do is to squirt a few drops of Z6 or now, Z8 into the bottle and shake it vigorously, this causes the remaining Z2Pro to come out of the bottle more completely. We mist our pads with the Z6 or Z8 anyay, so that cant hurt. To each their own... I dont find dripping out a few drops of ZFX a headache, nor waiting a few minutes,that gives me time to organize other things, drink a coke maybe. If you hate bottle washing (too much like dish washing) as much as I do go to the dollar store and buy a couple small plastic bottles.:xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

If you use the PC IMO it will seem like you are using more at first just until you season the pad. When you are done and waiting for the dry / cure put in plastic bag so the pad stays damp with the Z.
