My first pickup detail

kartoon

Don't ever drop your clay
This was the first time I detailed a pickup truck. The owner decided to sell it. This vehicle has been (ab)used like a pickup.

Tons of swirls, heavy scratches, etc. It has never been detailed, washed maybe a few times.

Process:

Gold Class wash

#85 on the rear gate

DACP

SSR1

EX-P

AA on trim and tires.

Got you thinking, huh ?

My boss just walked in so I had to pause for a while :o

After I finally got through the oxidation and dirt, I realized how beautiful the color is - dark blue with metallic flake. That's the color I would love to have on my car.

The truck wasn't perfect when I finished and I made the owner aware of it before I started.

I know, the bumper is not finished in the pictures and I ran out of sun at the end.

Overall, I was still happy with the results.

lol ohh god i was gonna say!!!! I almost thought it was a joke at first! lol Anyway the truck came out greeeaat! NICE WORK!!!! :up :up :up

Thanks for the kind words.

It took me almost 6 hours for exterior only. While I was washing it I thought it wouldn't be so bad but after I saw it dry I realized what a mess it was.

that is a good deal man, way to go. that was one sad looking truck to begin, not all of us truck owners are that hard on them. I must be one of the few that keeps it looking nice. thanks again!

Do you think using SSR2 and then SSR1 would have got even more of the scratches out, or do you think it is pretty much as good as it is going to get with SSR1? BTW, looks great, huge improvement!

Axe: No, no claying this time. While I usually don't skimp on products this detail was only about getting it ready for sale. The owner didn't even want me to put any protection on, but I just couldn't leave it naked.

Gonzo: He had already bought another truck, so this one is definately going. I just hope he takes better care of the new one.

capt512: I find DACP to be about equal in abrasiveness to SSR 2.5 so I don't think that SSR 2 would have been sufficient. Normally I would use 2.5 but I wanted to finish my DACP bottle (still have some leftover).

RCBuddha: Definately go for it. SSR1 is a great mild polish. And the smell is to die for :)

Thanks everyone for your comments - greatly appreciated.

Outstanding! If it wasn't for the license plate, I wouldn't have thought it was the same truck!

What kind of time did you put into it?

Thanks Scott, it took almost 6 hours although I wasted more than 1 hour on washing alone. That was actually a funny story.

The water valve in front of their house wasn't working, the pipe in the back was broken, so I was ready to do QEW. However, I really wanted to do a hose wash since there was a lot of mud on the lower panels. Well, the neighbor agreed to lend his hose which was barely reaching (no funny remarks please). If you look closer at the pictures you'll notice that the truck was reparked because I couldn't go around it. The spray nozzle was so bad that more water was coming from the connection that the nozzle itself. I literally got soaked from the waist down and with the temps in the high 30s it wasn't exactly a "warm feeling". Later that day I was sweating because the temp hit 50.
