My first C&B... 2007 Avalanche

Adam's Polishes

New member
Started at 9am on my brothers avalanche, hes decided to sell it and wanted it to look its best for potential buyers.... sadly this thing hasn't seen a coat of wax or a quality washing since shortly after he got it... as you can see from the before shots he is NOT following the tips for limiting swirls & scratches to the paint... sometimes I wonder if he was adopted :lol

I intended to get a lot more shots of it in process, but with the 90+ degree temp, the constantly changing ambient light, and the fact I worked a double yesterday at my "real job" I just got a couple.

Process was as follows:

  • Washed with DER Stuff car soap, 2 bucket method w/ 2 grit gaurds & sheep skin mit.
  • Wheels cleaned with 50% simple green - water mixture, coarse wheel brush for rubber and fenders, boars hair brush and mf mit for rims.
  • Dried with white waffle weave microfiber towel & air compressor.
  • Clayed with Adams purple clay.
  • Trim treated with Adams V.R.T. + wheel wells w/ invisible undercarriage spray
  • 1 pass w/ orange durafoam pad on PC w/ Swirl & Haze Remover for the heavy scratches.
  • 1 pass w/ white durafoam pad on PC w/ Fine Machine Polish to eliminate some of the trails left by the orange pad and any remaining swirls.
  • 1 pass w/ gray durafoam pad on PC w/ Machine Superwax for depth (cured for 2 hours)
  • Sealed w/ Optiseal (I love this stuff!!)
  • Headlights, tail lights, and emblems treated w/ DER Shiney Stuff
  • Wheels polished by hand with mothers Chrome Polish, sealed w/ Rejex

This was my test panel... this was the first pass w/ the orange pad and S&HR

After the white pad and fine machine polish

As you can tell it was hard getting a good angle on the light... the sun was starting to come into the garage, there were next to no defects left after this... just a few minor pits and a scratch that was too deep to buff out

THE FINAL RESULTS!!

While I am not familiar with most of the products used, you can't argue with that result! :up

One of the most impressive black details I have seen in a while, very deep.

Thanks!!

The car soap is part of a line I've used forever (DER Stuff) Great product for basic details, its my work horse when I've got customers who just want good shine, long protection, and b/c it is fairly quick to use I don't charge as much.

The rest of the stuff comes from Adam's Premium Polishes... from what I understand they're nothing unique (part of the CG's stuff) but I love the results I get with them. The fine machine polish and machine superwax combo is awesome, but a little temperamental when removing it from black paint. :buffing:

i might have to give that swirl and haze remover a shot. im getting ready to work on my mom's SUV and all i have is a pc (just beginning), and its just as bad as that truck was

those are some awesome results, especially with a PC! I hope your brother at least brought some beer over, that's a lot of work :)

He paid... although it was a dramatic discount over what I would've charged anyone else. Hes my little brother... gotta try and help him out where I can, but not too much :D

Pretty decent product... definitely not very aggressive so if you have a similar level of swirls to deal with I'd suggest going with a slightly more aggressive pad.

Does he have the title for that truck? If he doesn't he is def. gonna take a hit when selling it. Nice detail by the way.

Excellent work! And thats a pretty nice looking truck! Why is he getting rid of it?

He'll be starting the Sheriffs academy soon and will have to commute an hour plus 5 days a week.... just isn't practical or economical... not the best choice hes ever made, but he has a history of bad decision making (little brothers tend to do that). :bigups

Nope... he still owes a bit... but this will be the 4th consecutive new vehicle he has sold and will take a big hit on. Still living at home and not having a ton of responsibility allows him to do it, but reality is on the horizon... hopefully it helps him make better decisions.

you might want to try closing the garage for the shots, it really helps with swirls.

I would've but it BARELY fit in the garage as it was and to get enough room to close it I would've had to pull it in so far that I wouldn't have had room to work around the front or back... plus it was over 90* out and I didn't want to cook myself :faint:
