im waiting on a ulti mit and a FMII to come but hopefully ill get to do it this weekend. im about 95% sure what i need to do but tell what im missing

1. wash - Meg GC

2. clay - Pinnacle, wash after

3. polish ..PB Polish w/nuba..how many coats of polish and do i need and to wash afterwards

4. sealant - PB EX-P .. let dry at least 8-12 hrs..wash again then apply second coat

am i on the right track? the car is new so i thought one coat of polish would do but wasnt sure on that. if im leaving anything out let me know

no responses..i see whats going on..you want me to mess up so i have to call one of you to fix it huh :D

I'm not really familiar with your polish. Is it going on by hand or machine? I guess the only way to tell how many "coats" you need is the level of correction needed/achieved.

Your steps seem in order, but again--I'm unfamiliar with your polish and wasn't aware any true polishes had carnuba in them other than like cleaner/waxes which don't do any correction to my understanding.

Good luck, and have fun with it.

everything will be done by hand. the car is about 3 months old and silver. i asked at Poorboys forum about washing after i polished since thats what i wasnt sure about. the response i got was i could wash after i polished if "I" wanted to , my choice.

i think im going to wash it first w/Dawn to make the paint is stripped good. the only wax that i have used was some Armorall wash/wax soap.

If your in a husrry to get wax on it, just get some NXT 2.0 at either WAL-MART or auto parts store. It will be better than that Armor All you have.

Why would we want you to mess up? Autopia's all about helping. You just have to learn to be a little patient with responses since not everyone is on forums 24/7.

As with the washing after polishing, it's not really necessary. You could wash after you clay to remove the last bits of the contaminants off the paint, but I don't understand why you would want to wash after polishing.

I wouldn't bother with Dawn unless you really want to, a normal car wash soap should be fine since the polish will clean and prep the paint.

Since you're doing this by hand I don't think you'll need to wash after the polish. If you were using a PC and the polish dusted then yes, but by hand you should be OK unless you notice that it needs it.

The Poorboy's products are easy to use and look pretty good. I like EX-P but it lacks the durability of some of the other sealants, but for ease of use and looks it's hard to beat. You'll have the newer version which is supposed to last longer, but I haven't tried the new one yet. Have fun and enjoy your first big detail!

Depending on the clay that you're using, you shouldn't need to dry after the wash, and you shouldn't need to wash after the clay in any case.

I clay right after the wash, using a diluted wash solution and the wet paint as lube. I then rinse the car after the clay and dry it off. This saves me a good 10 to 15 minutes.

It depends on the clay that you're using, of course. Some clays will disintegrate upon contact with water.

I've only used Poor Boy's stuff once. Easy to apply and remove. I agree with the other posters. Don't need to wash after the polish.
