My detailing future is uncertain..

I was looking through the products on the CMA site, and noticed a Homecare Products section. They list several products for my two problems and I was wondering if anyone has any experience or suggestions that might help me out.

1) I have very hard water in my house that has etched (it appears) water spots on my fiberglass shower stall and on the glass doors. Any suggestions on how to remove them. So far, items like vinegar/alcohol/water, glass polish and AIO haven't worked.

2) I have fine scratches in my snowmobile helmet face shield (probably a polycarbonate). The Renovo Plastic Window polish didn't touch them - any other suggestions?

Thanks - I've asked on other sites, but finally decided that if anyone probably has some good ideas, it'll be around this forum:-))

I have hard water deposits on the handles of some very expensive kitchen knives. The handles (plastic/composite) now have a whiteish film covering them. Will vinegar safely remove them?

I've had great success using vinegar in hot water to remove the water spots from glasses and dishes. That's typically just a "film" that's easy to get off. I'd go ahead and try it.

Check THIS out for your hard water stains. Once you get the shower doors clean I suggest putting a squeegee in the shower and wipeing the glass doors with it after each shower. I also dry off the plumbing fixtures to keep them looking good.

For the helmet shield try Brillianize. It won't remove scratchs but it will improve the optical clarity of the plastic in a very noticable fashion. I keep my motorcycle helmet shields very clean but they only last so long. Of course on a snowmobile you wouldn't have all of the road grit hitting your faceshield either. If the scratch is right in front of your eyes I would replace the shield because it would be more trouble to clean the shield perfectly than to buy a new one.

I've had back problems for years, ruptured a disc about 8-9 years ago and I know I have to be carefull. About a month ago, I started having pain in my right leg, started on the outside, went from my calf all the way to my hip. Then, the lower back started it's mess. I went to the doc, he started me on muscle relaxers, pain pills, and a steroid to help heal my disc. Well, it didn't work this time so I went back, got an MRI and they called my doctor right afterwards and he called me. The call went like this, this is Dr.Burton, you have an ugly spine! You have 3 rurtured discs and 2 of them are torn and touching nerves - that's the leg pain. He set me up with an appointment this coming Monday with a neurosurgeon, said he may just let it heal or he may go in and trim the dics that have torn, and - I have some funky gaps in my spinal alignment now. Great, just friggin great, I'm out of work on sick leave, can't do anything more that go to the can and I may get back surgery - I love suspense...not! At least with the meds, I'm higher than a Georgia pine!

JB, sorry to hear about that. My dad had surgery for a ruptured disc and even today he has to be careful. However, he is able to get around for the most part just fine. I hope the best for you.

Jimmy,

I am sorry to hear of your back issue. I come from a family of "bad back" people and every once in a while mine will act up. It is time to sit back, collect your thoughts and see what the Doc's find out. Please keep us up-to-date on their findings and we will keep you in our thoughts.

hey jb, i'm sorry to hear about your back man. i'm a plumber and a pipefitter and bad backs and knees go with the territory, so i be feelin ya bro. good luck with whatever way you decide to go whether it be surgery or not.

Dude, sorry to hear about your back problems. I'm betting it bothers you more that you can't detail your car than the pain itself.
Good luck with your surgery.

Sorry to here of your back pain JB. I would get a second opinion before I would let them preform exploratory surgery. You may even wanna see if a chiropractor/accupuncture to see if they could help relieve the pain :soldier:

Be carefull with those pain meds. They are the #1 drug addiction in this Country currentally and do not discriminate :sarge

Will keep you in my prayers and hope your feeling better soon Da Rules!

Thanks guys, I'm doing a lot of thinking and like we detailers all do - start with the least agressive approach and go further if need be. My family doctor is great, I've been going to him for over 25 years, heck, my whole family goes to him cause we trust him completely and he says we have some of the best neurosurgeons in the country right here in NC. And he said that radiologists read MRI's differently from surgeons and I probably would only get the knife if the torn places in the discs are not capable of healing on their own and would need "trimming". I tell ya'llI am surprised by this, I knew I was in pain but I sure didn't think it was this bad.

Oh yeah, the pain meds - I'm with ya, I don't like to take them cause they make me so sleepy and slow. But, I need to rest, and I need to be nice around the wife and kids - nagging pain gives me a short fuse and I hate to be a jerk to the people that care about me the most. One thing is I'm on sick leave so the normal work stress is gone.

JB... I'm sorry to hear about this. Please read this paragraph about my wife's back problems.

In early January this year, her lower back was hurting so badly she couldn't walk. Pain going down both legs, horrible. She went to her neurosurgeon who did an MRI and stated that she had spinal compression and had 3 ruptured discs. He said, "Before we do any surgery, I want to send you to a chiropractor friend of mine."

We were both skeptical, but he urged us to trust him.

She started going for adjustments and acupuncture 3 times a week. Then it became 2, then 1, now she goes once a month. 4 months later:

NO PAIN. I repeat........... NO PAIN.

I can't believe it and neither can she. Best of all, covered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Just food for thought.

(Neither one of us had ever been to a chiropractor in our entire lives... we always thought "a bunch of quacks". Doesn't seem to be the case here.)

James I am sorry to hear about your back dude. I have a spilled disk in C5 and C6, did therapy on it several years ago. It still acts up from time to time, lately my right shoulder has been in so much pain that everyday is a struggle. I have an appointment with a doctor in three weeks, and suspect they might do surgery. I am okay with this though, if it repairs the damage.

If there is anything PAC or I personally can do please let us know (seriously!)!

Tu amigo,

Todd
