my detailer swirled up my car

I an new to the board and have had my 2002 e46 m3 for a few months now. I have always washed, waxed, dryed with the best microfiber. Always used zaino.. Until last week my car has been flawless, zero scratches, or swirls. That all changed last week when i got my car back from my body shop/detailer. They had to repaint my front bumper and hood (a guy hit me) and when i got my car back it was COVERED with swirl marks and heavy scrtches on the roof and the trunk. I believe that the guys had to push my car in to the shop with their hands (this would explain the heavy scraches). I am wondering what you guys think i should do.. The body/shop detailer is the best in my area (does all the audi, porsche and bmws) should i take the car back and have them remove them or just do it myself? What products would you guys recomend for removing mild swirls? The body shop detailer said he could remove them but i just think they will buff and wear down my clear coat until it becomes thin.. Any advice would be greatly great! thanks!

I think I would have them pay for it , I agree with you that they will porbally do more harm than good. I say find a good independent detailer in your area and have him quote you the cost to properly fix the car. If you want to do it yourself them figure out how much time and materials it will cost you and submit a bill for it. I had a very similar experience with a body shop it was a waranty claim on my paint and I told them not even wash the truck when they were done , I pull up to three guys with cheap cotton towels a bucket of dirty water and my dusty truck just out of the body shop , you can figure the end results. I ended up charging them $300.00 so that I could get all the sractches out. hope it all works out for you.

It sounds as though the shops attention to detail is suspect at best. If they were more than willing to return the car to you in that condition in the first place, I'd be hesitant to allow them to touch it again.

If you have cofidence in yourself and actually want to do the job yourself, then go ahead. You may also take the advice of obtaining a quote from a quality, independent detail shop and expecting the original shop to pay for it.

Man, I'd be very p'd off if I were you.... .

i forgot to mention that when the car was returned to me it still had the adhesive from the tape all over. When i confronted one of the guys about it he told me it was natural to have swirls. It was clear that they were responsable for the swirls because the same swirl patterns found on the freshly painted panels which were also found all over the car. The guy then had the balls to recomend me making an appointment to come in the following month so they could detail my car (id be paying for it of course). It is quite a shame because they did a great job painting my car (like i said, they are considered the best in my area) they just did a horrible job preparing it for me. I guess i cannot blame them too much, the only person who will ever do an absolutly perfect detailng job on a car is the owner. Some guy who doesnt own the car woulnt make sure the micro fiber were properly washed and maintained, wouldnt go the extra mile to avoid swirls that might only be see under a halogen light. It probobly was not a result of incompetence, but rather lack of care. So, now back to the problem.. after talking the president/owner of the shop, i am leaning tword allowing them to clean up the swirls and sratches (i of course will be there watching over) i feel that i should give them the chance to make it right. In the even i decide to do it myself, what system would you guys recomend? i have zaino but want to get rid of the swirls as opposed to simply hiding them. I dont want to use an aggresive system which will file down my clear coat. Id like to stay away from any machine systems, as i do not feel confident using them (i fear i may rub down my clear coat). I do have some Griots Fine Hand Polish, some 3M swirl remover, Zymol cleaner/ wax(i hear this stuff is crap but used it on my 996 turbo and found it was pretty good with removing swirls), and Meguires swirl remover. Does anyone have a suggestion? I forgot to mention that the ca is a medium red if that makes much of a difference. thanks again!

I can't say I agree with this comment , I am a professional detailer , I treat every car that comes into my shop as it was a part of my collection , mind you I do tend to do more high end automobiles , but even a Honda would get the very best treatment in my shop. I'm sure alot of the other pro's on here would agree. The guys who detailed you're car may not even be detailers they may just be hired lot boys who they used to wash the car. A real detailer pro or not takes pride in all the work he does , not just his own vehicle. I would have to say it was a case of not caring and being incompetent.
