Subject: My dad’s 2007 Impala

Background: Well last week he took it into the shop to get the oil changed and the tires rotated. Apparently one of the guys there had a soda sitting on the car and it spilled. Now of course being the smart men that they were the took shop towels and wiped it all up. Wasn’t that nice! :wall Now I know you are all cringing at this point and rightfully so because the panel and trunk lid looked like sh*t when he got home. So this weekend I took the pc to it.

Process:

Clay Z-18 and Z-7

2 Passes XMT fine swirl remover#2 via PC and orange pad

XMT ultra fine #1 via white pad

(Z5 x1; Z2 x1) no pics

They certainly roughed it up.

Almost wonder if I see some "hooks" that the orange pad may have left in the finish, though it still looks a TON better than what the shop guys left with the rags

As an aside, how is he liking the Impala? What did he drive previously? I know many of the officers in our city appreciate the FWD for snow and ice. The city likes the MPG in comparison to the Crown Victorias.

He loves it. My mom likes this one a lot but she liked his previouse one better. 1 because he use to have the bluish gray color which she really liked and also because his previous one had his and her climate controls. So she could have the heat on and he could have the cold. He used to have an 04 or 05 Impala. Yeah he really likes the fwd especially in winter with postion he is in when he can get and does get called out at any time. I cant tell you how many times his beeper goes off in the middle of the night and he has had to leave. He also invested in some z-chains. They are lamost like wires (not chains) that wrap around the wheels and he gets awsome traction even on straight ice. We tried that out on a parking lot one night and worked great. HE gets good mpg to I think like low maybe mid 20's but I mean heck it;s all city driving so thats pretty good. He said to they have almost as good pickup as the crowns. It's pretty much an ss trapped in an ltz shell.

It looks as if you didn't work in the XMT #2 enough. Maybe try another very slow pass. I could be wrong and it might be lots of super fine scratches, but personally I think it is light micromarring.

I've read that they are supposed to have slightly better track numbers in acceleration when compared to the Ford.

The reasoning I heard behind NOT offering the V-8 in the police package was that most departments buying the Impala wanted it for fuel economy. Since it has similar performance numbers when compared to the Crown Victoria, this made better MPG a big selling point. Buying the Impala meant you didn't lose performance to gain MPG.

Still, I'm not used to seeing FWD 6 cyl cars with police department logos and light bars. Our city hasn't purchased a P71 since 2000: all new marked and most unmarked are Impalas.

Many of the guys I know do NOT like the last gen Impala as a patrol car. I don't know anyone who has the newest one yet.

Yeah they probably will never offer the v8 impala with the police package.

What I meant is it is an ltz 3.9L with a little extra stuff. No one will probaly have the new generation for another year or so because what they usually do is give it to the commanders like my dad and then after 2-3 years pass them down to patrol cars. Then the commanders get new ones again.

I'm glad to see Chevrolet doing more in the market.

When GM gave up RWD in 1996, I figured the Ford guys were partying at that news. Lumina...eh, no

I felt bad for some of the city detectives here who had to drive Luminas. Even the Taurus seemed better than those things, at least to me.

:up :up I'm sure you're proud of your Dad, and you should be... Every cop is a Hero.

Fantastic job on his ride, too. It's always very cool to see a well-detailed cruiser on patrol.
