Hi

So much time without posting here, but my baby born a coupple of months and a lot of work stopped me from doing that.

Now the work plan What do you think (I choose Zaino over Klasse and UPP cause the color)

Exterior

1) Wash

2) Clay bar the whole car with Pinnacle (lot of contamination thanks to the trip from germany)

3) Polish the car with Menzerna Final Polish

4) Wah the car with Z7

5) 1 coat of Z5 with ZFX

6) 2 Coats of Z2 with ZFX

Interior

1) Clean with a wet microfiber

2) Apply Lexol to the leather

3) Apply Aerospace 303 to the interior of the car

Anything else or some change that you recommend

Nice A3. :up Is that the sport package I see? Did you get the DSG or the 6-speed?

I don't use the Z system, but I'm sure you'd also want to pickup some of the new Z-8 or Z-polish to go along with the whole Zexperience if you don't have them already.

Woo. Really nice car! and I like the color.

Congrats!

Can't comment much on the paint plan b/c I'm not that familar with the Zaino system (thought I'm very temped to switch to it for my new truck).

303 Aerospace though. Love the stuff. Can't go wrong there.

Yes it is the sport package and it is DSG (by the way is the bomb)

Intel thanks for the comments and I personally recommend you to try Zaino sometime

Thanks for the comments, more pics on monday after the detailing day

Very cool car. I looked at an A3 and ended up with an X3, but it was a tough choice. Love the DSG, and how tossable the car is.

I just did the initial Zaino application to the new X3. It happens that it's silver, which is a deal more forgiving than the red. Having said that, I think you may well be able to skip either the Menzerna step or the Z5 -- I'd say just pick one. After all, Menzerna removes swirls, and Z5 fills them. So either get rid of 'em if you have any, or just go with the Z5 and save yourself a couple hours of polishing.

My initial process was:

1. Dawn

2. Clay (Z7+water for lubrication)

3. Z2 x 3 (Z6 before and after third coat)

4. 303 on exterior black plastic trim (did this after applying but before wiping off third Z2 coat, as 303 always seems to overspray everywhere)

5. Horrors -- no interior treatment whatsoever.

I have never used a decontamination system, but I know there are folks here who swear by them.

Maybe it's just my bottle of the stuff, but I'm convinced that Lexol is nasty. I've never had leather look better after applying it, only greasier. I haven't tried Z10, for leather, but I hear it's fabulous and I'll pick up a bottle next time I'm restocking.

I did no interior treatment because the whole thing has a matte finish that I'm loathe to touch with shiny stuff, and in the three years I'm going to have the car (I leased), the dash is not going to crack. It's quite likely I'll never apply product to the dash. I'll probably do Z10 on the leather once the "newness" wears off for me.

P.S. - Rims

BMWs have among the worst brake dust I've seen. It's consistent -- look at the cars around you. So I tried a bit of an experiment. First time I cleaned them, they had accumulated a fair amount of brake dust. I bought a bottle of the Turtle Wax Platinum wheel cleaner, as that product line has gotten some favorable comments here and I thought I'd give it a try. It also claims to have fancy polymers which will resist dust adhesion in the future. I'll say now I'm skeptical on this, but it doesn't matter given the outcome of my experiment.

I will say the cleaner did clean nicely. I let it dwell for 30 seconds per instructions and then used a wheel brush. Everything rinsed off well after a bit of agitation. While the Meguiar's in the purple bottle (forget the name at present) got 95% off with just a spray, this got 100% off with a small amount of elbow grease. I give the cleaner a thumbs up.

So, I put Z2 x2 on the left front rim, and NXT Tech Wax on the right. I used the NXT because I found it was hands down the best-looking product for the chrome rims on my last car. Something about that wax and chrome just works. (Anyone else notice this?) These rims are painted silver, though, not chrome. I put nothing on the rear wheels to check out the Turtle Wax dust adhesion claim. To do that properly, I should have Dawn washed one of the rear rims to have a stripped control rim, but that wasn't entirely necessary as I don't plan to have any unprotected rims.

The Z wins decisively. That rim had half the dust of the other before I went through the touchless car wash. Afterward, both front rims had the same amount. The front rims had a similar amount of dust to the rear rims, treated only with the cleaner, though the fronts started with far more than the rear. This is why I'm skeptical about the dust adhesion claim -- I just didn't see much going on there.

The Z-treated rim was also easier to clean than the NXT rim. Both were easier to clean than the Turtle-only rear rims.

My cleaning method after the touchless car wash was to use the Z7/water spritz I use for clay. Spray on, clean, wipe dry. This should maintain my Zaino coat between reapplications. I suppose I could Z6 as well, though I don't think the difference would be worth the use of product in this case.
