Here's what I did on my Thanksgiving vacation...
My poor Olds van has been seriously neglected from the get go. It's probably been handwashed less than a dozen times in 6 years and been through the machine carwash a couple of times. It's been waxed less than 5 times in its life. Despite all the abuse, the paint wasn't in too bad a condition. It has a few unavoidable rock chips and micromarring but nothing too serious. I think being garage kept has probably helped a lot.
I just gave it its first decent detailing. My goal was not to reach car show perfection but treat it to a good cleaning and add some much needed protection. It has been relegated to the driveway now that we have a new baby (car) taking its spot in the garage.
Here's what I did...
Exterior:
- Wash with ONR and Sheepskin Mitt and 2 bucket method
- Dry with WW
- Clay with ONR at Lube concentration
- Optimum Compound with PC and Green Edge2K 6" DA pad on the Hood, Front and Rear Bumpers and Rear Hatch
- Megs ScratchX for those hard to reach spots on the front bumper and door handles
- JW Prime:Strong with PC and Blue Edge2K pad
- JW AJT for LSP
- Clean wheels & tires with E1 All Wheel & Tire (duh!) and Armor All for wheel wells
Interior (I ran out of daylight so I did a quick job):
- Vacuum with new Ridgid Wet/Dry vac from Home Depot ($27 - Score!)
- Shampoo mats with ???
- Clean plastic surfaces with Sonus Cockpit Detailer
- Clean glass with Stoners
